분단 반세기만에 북한과 중국을 통해 오르며 백두산 모습을 동서남북에서 계절별로 촬영한 사진과, 국내 최초로 중국이 아닌 북한을 통한 수십여 회의산행으로 그동안 볼 수 없었던 백두산의 사계절 모습을 담아 촬영한 사진 수백여점과 KBS방송을 통해 방영된 '2007 한민족 특별기획 백두산의 사계'화면 그리고 미공개 화면(편집)을 담아 백두산의 절경을 감상할 수 있도록 고화질 영상으로 구성.

봄
- 한겨울에 4미터 두께로 두껍게 얼어있던 천지의 얼음들도 어느새 따뜻한 햇살에 녹아 내리고 있다. 천지는 남북으로 약 5킬로미터 동서로도 3킬로가 넘는 세계 최대의 천연 화구호로서 이 속에 담겨있는 물의 양은 약 20억 톤에 이른다. 평균수심이 213미터, 가장 깊은 곳은 384미터에 이르는 이 호수는 9월 하순이면 벌써 얼기 시작해 6월 하순까지 일년의 4분의 3동안 흰 눈과 얼음 속에 얼굴을 감추고 있다가 수줍은 처녀처럼 비로소 환하게 웃는다.

여름
- 백두산의 여름은 짧다. 양력 8월초가 되면 벌써 서리가 시작되므로 여름은 사실상 7월 한 달도 채 안 된다. 여름의 평균온도도 8.7도 정도이다. 그러나 짧은 데 비해서 그 여름은 일 년의 4분의 3에 해당하는 겨울을 다 합한 것만큼이나 힘이 넘친다.

가을
- 가을이 오고 물의 온도가 내려가면서 천지의 물도 더욱 신비로워진다. 천지 주변에 사는 동물들도 발걸음이 바빠진다. 확실히 가을의 하늘은 더 높아지고 그만큼 백두산의 물도 더 깊어진다. 물 속에 비치는 선명한 그림자들은 마치 백두를 우러러 바라보는 듯 착각 속에서 웅혼한 기상을 자랑한다.

겨울
- 백두산의 겨울은 우리 민족의 겨울처럼 길다. 백두산의 온천 물은 한 겨울에도 50도가 넘는 뜨거운 물이 솟아오르고 있다. 천지는 백두산 분화구에 물을 담고 있는 천연호다. 산정 화구호로서 세계에서 가장 깊다. 지각변동의 화산활동으로 인하여 분화구가 되어 용암과 화산재를 뿜어 냈으며 그 뒤 중앙부가 함몰하면서 깊은 호수가 되었다.
