There is no Chinese novel more famous than Joruney to the West, and while there have been many movie adaptations, this memorable version presents a unique interpretation with humor, action, and fantasy galore. Ho Fan (who later became a celebrated erotic film director) plays the monk who undertakes a journey for Buddhist scriptures, encountering Monkey, Pigsy, and a damsel in distress (played by the actress named "The Most Beautiful Creature in China"), among many fun and fascinating others.

This third installment in Shaw Brothers' acclaimed adaptation of the classic novel Journey to the west is possibly the most exotic of all. Sex and spectacle are combined as our geroes find themselves trapped in the Cave of the Silken Web, home of the seductive Seven Spiders, who are bent on achiening immortality by eating monk's flesh. There's weird fun and wacky adventure from beginning to end, with the sets and costumes belonging as much to the psychedelic 60's as ancient China.

Fantasy at it's very BEST!

If you like serious, thought provoking martial arts films.......well, look somewhere else. This is a movie you can't take too seriously. Not to say it's bad, in fact it happens to be one of my all time favorite HK films of all time. I have read "Journey to the West" and this film does it justice, AND SOME ! The SPFX in this film are amazing for 1964, and the colors of the remastered version are vibrant and richly detailed. The way Yueh Hua portrays "Monkey" is perfect and enjoyably silly. I love the fact that everyone has there own niche in the film, the scope and epic nature of the movie is breathtaking like no other of this time. JUST HAVE FUN WHEN YOU WATCH IT! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS SERIES CHECK OUT THE OTHER SEQUALS, "Princess Iron Fan", "Cave of Silken Web", AND THE FINAL INSTALLMENT "Land of Many Perfumes"! |

Monkye Goes West, UNFORGETABLE
| I first saw this movie in Honolulu, Hawaii in the early 70's. I always had fond memories of it! My love thoughts for Piggy, Monkey, and Monk Tang have lasted for more than 30 years! Several years ago I saw a clip of Piggy(from Monkey Goes West) in a Halmark movie called "Kwan Yin." Since then I've searched the video market to buy a copy. No one I contacted new of it. Now it was a wonderful suprise to find it available. My VCD copy has great color and clarity. It is so wonderful to have such an old movie and not have it scrathced up nor with dull colors. Monkey Goes West is a wonderful story and great viewing for the entire family. Love, Joe Robert-Whitewater, Calif. USA |

| This movie kicked ass. If you like me and you never read the book, this movie is for you. It's fairly fast paced, and full of action. This first movie basically introduces you to the characters. The 2nd 3rd and 4th are a do not miss. Get them all here at yesasia. |

| First of the 3 SB movies that based on the classic novel " Journey to the West". Regardless of the 60's special effects, the entire show is still very enjoyable and worth watching. Highly recommended. |
