The Pavilion Salamandre (DVD) (Special Edition) (Korea Version) DVD Region 3

Once in a while, a film comes around that simply and brilliantly confounds all reason. (This seems to occur a bit more frequently in Japanese cinema.) It takes a certain finesse to turn nuttiness into mind-boggling art, and the newest addition to that esteemed club is director Tominaga Masanori. Already acclaimed in film circles for his indie DV shorts, Tominaga takes things to the next level with his debut feature Pavilion Sanshouo (a.k.a. Pavilion Salamandre). The film completely defies genre and narrative conventions with a bizarre story about a family's fight over a century-old salamander. Strange plot twists, peculiar characters, and off-the-wall situations keep the story chaotically busy yet amusingly dormant.

Popular actor Odagiri Joe (Yureru) continues to expand his repertoire in a hilariously campy role, alongside Takada Junji as a bumbling patriarch and Mitsuishi Ken (A Cheerful Gang Turns the Earth) as a calculating gangster. A group of up-and-coming young actresses - Kashii Yu (Until the Lights Come Back), Kiki (Starfish Hotel), Asou Yumi (Survive Style 5+), and newcomer Kitaki Mayu - rounds out the cast for the entertainingly surreal Pavilion Sanshouo.

The Ninomiya family has managed the Salamander Kinjiro Foundation for generations. The job mainly consists of tending to giant celebrity salamander Kinjiro, a national treasure that has been alive for a good 140 years. Thanks to generous subsidies from the government, the Ninomiyas live in spoiled luxury - that is except for flighty father Shiro (Takada Junji) who has managed to rack up a bit of debt. Gang leader Kagawa (Mitsuishi Ken) wants to marry Shiro's daughter Akina (Asou Yumi) and buy out the foundation. Shiro and youngest daughter Azuki (Kashii Yu), however, are not about to let the blobby one fall into the wrong hands. But wait, rumor is that Kinjiro is actually a fake. This is when quirky, wandering X-ray technician Tobishima Hoichi (Odagiri Joe) comes into play...

세상 사람들에게 미녀 네자매로 알려진 아키노, 미하리, 히비코, 아즈키(카시이 유우)가 있는 니노미야 가문은 대대로 동물 국보 도룡뇽 ‘킨지로’를 관리하면서 국가로부터 수십억 엔의 돈을 받고 있는 ‘살라만더 킨지로 재단’을 운영하고 있다. 그러던 어느 날, 자칭 21세기 최고의 천재 뢴트겐 기사 토비시마 호이치(오다기리 죠)는 제2 농향회 회장 카가와로부터 킨지로의 촬영을 의뢰 받는다. 킨지로가 가짜라는 의혹이 급부상하고 있는 이유로 진짜인지 아닌지를 알아내야 했기 때문. 한편 아즈키는 킨지로가 위험하다는 말을 듣고 킨지로를 안전한 곳으로 옮기고 아직 만나지 못한 엄마를 보러 가고자 한다. 아즈키는 미하리나 히비코와는 배다른 자매였던 것. 킨지로의 150세 생일 파티가 니노미야의 호화 저택에서 열리던 밤, 호이치와 아즈키는 운명적인 만남을 갖게 된다.
