Konomi Takeshi's manga has spawned an anime series, an OVA, a live-action film, a long-running musical series, and a multitude of spin-off products. Now, following on the heels of Zenkoku Taikai Hen, comes the second Prince of Tennis OVA. Zenkoku Taikai Hen Semifinal, or National Championship Semifinal, picks up the story three months after the first OVA. This time Ryoma Echizen and the Seigaku team will be facing off against rival school Shiten Hoji as they forehand their way through the national championship semifinals.

16 搞笑網球的恐怖

第二場比賽是桃城、海堂出場的雙打2。對上的是四天寶寺的小春、裕次組。小春他們不但散發一股同志氛圍打鬧，還大秀黑人頭、眼罩和髮髻頭套等道具在會場引起爆笑，讓桃城與海堂步調大亂無法發揮實力。火大的海堂使出回旋蛇球，卻被小春輕易化解。原來小春是個IQ200的超級資料男。面對靠著恐怖的分析能力及資料收集揭露海堂隱私的小春，桃城與海堂找不回自己的步調、一路居於劣勢。就在兩人感到無力挽回、開始自暴自棄時，卻由於龍崎教練的話而靈機一動，戴上了桃城偷偷帶著的某樣秘密武器來應戰。

接著的比賽是河村與四天寶寺石田的力道對決。身為波動球的開山祖師爺，石田完全不認同河村那「模仿」學得的波動球。

為了讓河村見識真正的波動球，石田從第1球開始就不斷以波動球回擊河村所擊出的衝刺波動球。完全無法和其球威抗衡的河村，連一分都拿不到的被一路壓著打。但是，河村即使身負重傷也不停止使出波動球，認為自己既沒技巧又沒天份的他，頑固地堅持重砲打法。為那股毅力感動的石田，決定使出有一百零八式的波動球。球威隨等級逐漸增強，甚至強到讓河村被球轟出場外。此時，河村眼中看見的，是眾多親友的身影。
