I felt cheated after buying, many scence were cut and made the whole drama not perfect. I like the full version of drama with many theme songs and touching scences in it. I hope TVB sees this comments and release the full version of this drama.

Quite dissappointed. I could not wait to buy these VCDs, but I felt sad after watching it, many scenes which made the drama touching and nice were cut abd many lovely theme songs are hardly heard too, what a shame. My friends have same opinion as me too. We all hope that TVB can release the full and uncut version, my friends and I will definitely buy it for collections. Simply because we like the full version of drama very much(The story is nice and the actors and actress are good, especially the supporting actors and actress, Leung Kar Yan and Au Yeung Pui Shan).

Where are the DVDs? Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
It has been 20+ years since this series was made. Why hasn't TVB released this series on DVD? Are they trying to squeeze out every penny from of their fans? Releasing ROCH on inferior VCDs is bad enough but to add insult to injury, they cut out a bunch of scenes!

IDy chan is an outstanding actor in this drama(i think that's what made this drama so famous). A must seen classic tvb series and one of best idy chan's production.

Singapore censors Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
As far as I can tell, TVB didn't exactly release this. I had looked for a cantonese version of the series while I was in HK and China, and only found the Mandarin version. The Cantonese version (this one) seems to be from Singapore, and the Singapore censors probably got to them. I'm really mad about the deletions, but I don't know where else to get a version in Cantonese.

It's still a good series despite the cut scenes.

COOL !!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Never bought this VCD version. I have DVD version of the original VHS (chosen and converted to DVD from the best possible quality). I hate TVB's scene deletion when issuing this release. The original 50 episodes are wonderful, partly because the end credits appear at peak scenes with good music. I don't know how they change that in this release.

This is just not right!! they cut even more on this box set than the first box!!

The scences leading to ending was missing a BIG section!!

But overall a great movie!!

This was not a bad film!! but the amount of cut and deleted scences was a big drawback!! I mean they could have deleted good 3 or 4 cds!!

The series is great, I always liked it and I always liked since I was 5 years old. The quality and all is great but the only complaint I have is the cutting of scenes. Maybe they didn't do it so noticeable at the very end of the last 3 - 4 disc, it might be better. They could have deleted small minutes from the previous discs and they could have left the ending a little better. They should also reconsider not to put that crappy music in too. The original tracks are good and they are good enough. The new background music they inserted just didn't fit the scenes and it ruined the scene.
The cuts weren't really noticeable till the very end. Major scenes were taken out hence events relied on characters dialogs. If the viewer never saw the series on those old VHS, they would probably think the ending was rushed.
The additional background music tracks were refreshing at first but quickly became annoying. Most of the time the track will not fit the scene. The music is basically all keys while the older tracks was a well compilation of orchestra of Asian musical instruments and English musical instruments.
If you are looking for something great in special effects with computer graphics flying around, then this is not for you cause this is more like a classic from the 80's and back then people know how to act better and don't need those special effects to get their points across to their viewers.
I bought this VCD set so I can have this series forever but I was surprised that scenes were taken out. Aside from that I am not totally disappointed but I am somewhat left with a feeling of being cheated in a way. Good thing I still have does old VHS on hand but I guess I can use this set as cliff notes to the uncut version.
My finally comment or question is, why don't they just put it on DVD so the whole series can be on disc or release a 3rd set so no scenes does not have to be deleted, real fans will buy it regardless.

This released version is a shame to all fans Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is such a beautiful story, with reprised roles from Andy Lau and Idy Chan that truly deeply bring out the struggled love and hardships they go through in order to survive the criticisms of their social worlds at war in such a grand scale. Everyone, yes, EVERYONE, deserves to watch this version. Do NOT watch the newly remade ones, seriously, special effects explosions and terrible acting anger me.
However, I am truly disappointed in this VCD released version. It doesn't deserve to be released at all, because of all the cut-out scenese that are crucial to the story. I've already ranted on about it for the second half of the release labeled "what is wrong with them". It is such a shame that TVB is releasing this atrocity, and they don't deserve to be in the business if it's come to this. Buyers, SERIOUSLY consider the worth of your money before buying this. Remember, almost 1/4 of the entire show is cut off, therefore you can never truly experience the drive of this beautiful tale.
