The TVB series The Rough Ride remains in fans' memories after so many years probably thanks to its strong cast and appealing story. When it was broadcast in 1985, the female lead of the drama, Barbara Yung, committed suicide and left her fans at a young age of 26. Famous for her captivating performance as Wong Yung in the well-known costume series, the Legend of the Condor Heroes, Barbara Yung has made only nine TV series in her ephemeral acting career. Among those The Rough Ride is one of her only two modern-set dramas, in which she teams up with Tony Leung, a nowadays top actor, as a couple. This first collaboration between Barbara Yung and Tony Leung, sadly also the last, has received great applause from the audience in the 1980s.

Barbara Yung plays a courageous policewoman who encounters a teacher (Tony Leung) due to some misunderstandings, and they soon fall in love with each other. Ray Lui and Chen Min Er play the other two leading roles, a young businessman and a lawyer who has just graduated from the law school respectively. The young businessman has a crush on the female lawyer and tries every means to court her. Lui and Chan rarely collaborate after The Rough Ride, for he went on to pursue a career in movies and she became a top program host at TVB. This 40-episode series also features veterans like Kwan Hoi San, Lau Daan, Ha Yue and Au-Yeung Pui San who offer awesome performances and create wonderful chemistry with the young ones.
