Should have been better
|
The first half of "The Shopaholics" is a mildly amusing tale of people battling their phobias. Sean Lau, Cecilia Cheung, and Jordan Chan deftly bring their screwed-up characters to life. Too bad the film didn't end there. The second half of the movie seeks to turn the comedy into a wild slapstick affair in which the four phobia-ridden central characters, on their wedding day, cannot make up their minds about whom to marry. Perhaps in more skillful hands this might have been funny, but the direction here is entirely ham-handed and the movie becomes interminable. One of the major problems of the film's second half is that it places Paula Tsui at the center of the action. Whatever her merits may be as a singer, Ms. Tsui simply cannot act. Her monotonal delivery saps the comic energy from the film and reduces the rest of the cast to flailing about for very few laughs. Here's my recommendation: Watch the movie until the wedding day arrives, then find something better to do with your time. By the way, when (and why) did Cecilia get those tattoos??? |

It's a funny movie!
|
The plot is of course, soapy, heavily exaggerated, but at the same time, hilariously funny! Of course it's very difficult to have the level of severity in those problems as severe as this movie described, even a lot of those random thoughts might cross our minds sometimes.... but if it comes down to reality level, it would not be funny. I like the way this movie is done. If you are looking for serious and romantic film, this isn't the one for you. |

wow..this movie is actually a bit more interesting than i thought it would be.. i like how all of the 4 characters had some sort of phobia that causes total chaos throughout the movie it's not as stupid as i thought it would be..there were a lot of funny scenes..some a bit ridiculous in a way..like the wedding scene..u get her..u fight him..u come to this place.etc..it draws out of reality...so it's quite creative and interesting all 4 characters were wonderful..actings were delivered well..i really enjoyed ella's performance in the movie...hope she keeps up her acting skills overall..8/10..this movie is worth your time when u're really bored and got nothing to do |

I like it
| I was in Hong Kong in March this year and a video store was playing this movie. There were about 10 people or so standing outside the window of the store watching this movie. I think they liked the movie because they were standing there for quite a while. I am glad I finally get to buy it. It is a crazy movie but sure puts a smile on my face. |

Very bad
Very bad
| It was a really stupid movie....I don't really mind there's not much story line especially it's playing in CNY but it didn't have have any funny plot at all. It's not so bad until the wedding part. It's very lousy. Don't bother wasting 1 1/2 hr in this movie....Also it's such a waste with such a good cast & very disappointe about the director. He used to have a lot of good movies... |

Lightweight Entertainment
| This was a fun movie. Lots of slapstick & breezy comedy. A shopaholic behavioral disorder can be a serious disability but this film uses it as the premise for a lot of silliness. The jumbled engagement & wedding plans and the multiple layers of reverse psychology & social pressure about the matchmaking and nuptials made for a lot of wacky situations. |
