　　本片劇本是由劉藝改編自瓊瑤原著《六個夢》中的一段「啞妻」，故事敘述靜言和啞妻依依兩人感情甚篤，惟依依所生女兒雪兒卻和自己一樣聾啞，當依依再懷第二胎時，靜言強迫依依墮胎，依依抗拒，靜言於是拋妻出走。十年後，依依病危，其女雪兒寫信求父親靜言回家，當他趕回家時，伊人已撒手人寰。劇中由於女主角為聾啞，因此導演在處理上也運用大量的內心戲獨白，使得影片洋溢著濃厚的文藝氣息，而人物的性格衝突和情感的細緻描繪，也拓寬了原著的深度和格局。
