Julie enchants with <i>The Sound of Music</i>
If you like nature, music, positive thinking and classic movies, Robert Wise's (West-Side Story) The Sound of Music will keep you captivated for its running time of almost 180 minutes. However, chances are high that even general viewers will be swept away by the charm of this Rodger Hammerstein musical turned silver screen epic.

Without a doubt, the film's success is mainly due to its perfectly cast female lead, Julie Andrews (Marry Poppins, Victor/Victoria). She portrays Maria, a happy-go-lucky nun who arrives late at all major assemblies, but never fails to please everybody with her merry spirits. After she is assigned to take care of a group of motherless siblings, her joyful nature likewise takes a hold of them. Even their father (Christopher Plummer), who hides the sadness about his early-deceased wife behind army-like commands, bids his loneliness farewell thanks to the newfound bliss sent by Maria. Enchanting in many ways, this nostalgic movie still manages to forward an important message to stand up against dictatorship. However, as a whole the film never strays far from its positive world view that is wrapped up in lots of funny and touching moments with Maria, Liesl, Marta, Brigitta, Gretl, Friedrich, Kurt and Captain Georg Von Trapp as its essential cast. Also featuring many memorable songs including My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, and Do Re Mi, The Sound of Music promises to keep old and young viewers spellbound.

Your heart will be bless with The Sound of Music. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The brilliant score of Rodgers & Hammerstein + Julie Andrews made this Oscar winning film a top 10 in the history of Hollywood musical films.The original stage version was performed by Mary Martin ( mother of JR - the hit TV series Dallas ). I heard Webber's Really Useful Co might do a revival in London so watch this space www.londonupdate.co.uk for update information.

A classic musical film. Excellent picture and sound quality. The one major disappointment is that the Japanese dub covers only the dialog--the songs are all still in English. (FYI: This DVD also includes the all-English audio track.)
