Classic kung-fu star Jimmy Wang Yu is Li Yueh, a righteous swordsman sent into hiding after he kills an official for the unjust execution of his father. Li Yuen is sought out by Jun Zhao (Chiu Kou), a noble swordsman who seeks out Li on behalf of Liu Xuan (Chin Ping), his swordplay student and also the woman he loves. However, when evil attackers from Flying Fish island pursue Jun Zhao, the love triangle is put aside in favor of righteous bonds of brotherhood. Li Yueh returns to the World of Martial Arts to help his friend in a climactic confrontation that piles on the blood and bodies like you wouldn't believe. Predating Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by more than a few decades, The Trail of the Broken Blade is a standout romantic action epic which compares favorably to Ang Lee's modern masterpiece.
