The Unwritten Law, The Truth, and The Truth - Final Episode features superstar Andy Lau as a young lawyer who grew up in an orphanage, and this has become his most representative role in his early acting career. In these three films he co-stars with Deanie Ip to unfold a most touching mother-son relationship. The Unwritten Law, directed by Ng See-yuen, started a series of courtroom movies in Hong Kong in the mid-80s. Johnny Mak Dong-hung and Stephen Siu Yuek-yuen, the screenplay writer of The Unwritten Law, wrote its sequel The Truth, directed by Taylor Wong, and they continued to depict the deep affection between mother and son. The last episode of the trilogy The Truth - Final Episode, directed by Michael Mak Dong-kit, is even more touching than The Truth. The son's misery and the mother's tragic life will no doubt arouse the sympathy of the audience.

　　劉德華是一位在孤兒院長大的青年律師, 曾為一位被控謀殺的妓女葉德嫻打贏官司, 但他始終不知葉原來是自己的母親.

　　葉仍操皮肉生涯, 平日被雜差收黑錢敲詐, 生活相當悲苦, 不幸律師兒子的出世紙又落入壞蛋雜差手中, 勒索葉鉅款, 迫得她到麻雀館賭博出千, 被捉毒打, 走投無路之下, 結果殺死了雜差, 被捕候審.

　　孤兒院修女瑪利亞知悉此事, 找劉再次為葉辯護. 葉為了不想讓兒子知道身世, 寧可自殺作了結, 幸而獲救. 在醫院, 修女瑪修亞忍不住向劉講出秘密, 謂葉不單是他親生母親, 更是那位供給他到外國留學的無名叔叔.

　　劉與法官及檢控官早有摩擦, 積怨甚深, 這使他為母親辯護處於被動孤立, 更因收買證人, 教唆作假口供敗露, 面臨知法犯法的懲罰, 但劉卻在公堂上講出他的真正身世, 更讚頌葉的偉大. 結果博得陪審團的寬待.

　　A prostitute has been accused of a murder. Luckily with the help of a young lawyer, she recovers in the lawsuit. But then, she gets into another trouble and is accused with another murder and her friend asks the same lawyer to defend for her.
