Chan Bo Chu is impressive at 12 yrs old here! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I believe this movie was made 1958-59 which would make her 12 yrs. old according to the movie archives. She sings and acts really well for someone so young and in the opera too. All the actors in this whole movie acted well and the storyline was very interesting though some parts were boring. Some of the singing was very interesting because they use words that were more like spoken Cantonese than singing. Ng is Chan's mother and Yam is Chan's father who is the emperor because Yam does not know it. Yam is the mercy of the Yuan people. Ng is a victim of circumstances, gets kick out of the palace and is an unwed mother. But there is always a happy ending. I find it quite entertaining and amusing movie.

Excellent performance by a young Chan Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I think Chan is only 12 or 13 here. Her role is the son of Yam and Ng - he is the emperor and fell in love with Ng who is a worker in the palace and got her pregnant. Ng is ousted by the queen superior and she goes home to have the child who is Chan - Wow!I was always impressed with both Yam and NG and Chan is really great at such a young age. We can truly see her forte in the Cantonese opera

This is a very good movie- Chan was only 12 Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
From what I read and heard, this movie was done in 1958 which would mean she is 12. She did an excellent job being the son of the king - but she did not know it because her mother was ousted from the palace for carrying a child and not wed. Chan is very playful but smart too. How she after 12 years meet up with her father the king, played by Yum Kim Fai and how she and Ng get back together. Overall, it was a very good movie!
