Warriors come out to play
Walter Hill's The Warriors from the late 70s is one of those movies that is worthy of its cult following.

The Warriors revolves around an underdog gang framed for murder, and the members have to fight their way back to Coney Island against all odds. In this typical Hill movie, a pack of individuals are caught in a life-deciding situation that they have to overcome at all costs through physical strength, clever tactics, or both. This unavoidably leads to chasing scenes that, in the case of the protagonists of this movie, never seem to end as they are shown running from and fighting against the likes of the Lizzies, Baseball Furies, Turnbulls, and other gangs that would like to see them dead rather than alive.

Bathed in neon-lit scenes that are perfectly complemented by the stylish outfits of the various featured gangs, Andrew Laszlo's cinematography is as visually arresting today as it was in the late 70s. In addition, the mysterious sound score by Barry De Vorzon successfully underlines the special atmosphere of the movie. Songs have also been neatly edited into the film, most successfully perhaps with a cover version of Martha & The Vandella's Motown classic Nowhere To Run which is played on the radio just when the Warriors try to escape from one of the rival gangs. The film also features Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh's In the City as the fitting end title theme of the movie. Viewers of this cult movie won't mind seeing The Warriors come out to play again.
