2006年、韓国での日本製劇場用アニメーションの開放を前に、史上初の本格的韓日合作アニメとして作り上げられた劇場版「新暗行御史」（2004年12月劇場公開）。原作は「月刊サンデーGX」にて連載され、魅力的なキャラクターと迫力ある作画で好評を博したユン・インワン（原作）、ヤン・ギョンイル（作画）による人気コミック。この劇場アニメ版ではアニメーション制作を「ポケモン」「ベルセルク」のOLMが担当。監修・プロット・脚本を「クレヨンしんちゃん」シリーズや「サクラ大戦 活動写真」の本郷みつる、監督・脚本を本郷みつるの下で「カスミン」「キョロちゃん」などの演出を手がけた志村錠児が担当。志村錠児の初の劇場長編アニメ監督作品となった。ボイス・キャストには藤原啓治、小林沙苗、日高のり子ら実力派声優陣をそろえ、韓国語OPナレーションをイ・ジフン、日本語OPナレーションをユンソナ、EDナレーションをチソンが務めている。
古の国・聚慎に仕えた特殊官吏、"暗行御史（アメンオサ）"。暗行御史の一人、文秀（ムンス）は、聚慎を滅ぼした一人の男を追いかけていた…。
