Though overseas audiences are no doubt more familiar with Taiwan's idol and period drama output, the island's television offerings extend a far wider range. Local stations like PTV and Da Ai produce many acclaimed dramas that usually don't make it to DVD, making this release all the more worthy of collection. This six-disc boxset comes with three acclaimed 2007 Da Ai mini dramas: Tie Shu Hua Kai, Yue Liang Chu Lai Le, and Hu Jiao 223.

Tie Shu Hua Kai ("Metal Tree Blooms Flowers")
Set in 1955 Kaohsiung, this drama revolves around a woman (Huang Tsai Yi) from a well-off family whose illicit relationship with an aboriginal worker leads to pregnancy. Forced to marry another man, she gives birth to a little boy, who looks a bit different from the rest of the kids because of his mixed ethnicity. His darker skin tone stands out all the more next to his younger sisters, leading to constant pointing and whispering and discriminatory treatment. Actor Tai Po won the Best Supporting Actor statuette at the recent 42nd Golden Bell Awards for his performance in the drama.

Yue Liang Chu Lai Le ("The Moon Has Come Out") Because of sudden changes at home, model student Ming Su is forced to stop school. While everyone else is sitting for the high school entrance exam, she is moving homes and moving away from her dream of attending Nanyang High. After graduating from junior high, she takes a job at her mother's factory, passing each day in listless monotony. One day, she encounters her junior high teacher, awakening her hopes of returning to school.

Hu Jiao 223 ("Scream 223")
Life in a quiet village is disrupted when a stranger arrives, recruiting village girls to go work in the city. The promise of 500,000NT in two years is very tempting to many villagers, and Lin tells his daughter Mei Lian to sign up. When Mei Lian's elderly neighbor warns her that the job is prostitution, the scared Mei Lian decides to runs away with Qiu Xiang and her friend Xiao Zhang. It turns out, however, that Xiao Zhang has malicious intentions in mind. Chen Yi Han won Best Supporting Actress at the 42nd Golden Bell Awards for her performance.
