牛を売って一稼ぎしようと、流れ者のジェフ（ジェームズ・スチュワート）が、アラスカの町、スキャグウェイにやってきた。そこは、法律の名の下に悪業を重ねるギャノン（ジョン・マッキンタイア）が支配する町。ギャノンは悪どいやり口でジェフの牛を没収するが、彼はまんまと牛を取り返し、カナダの町、ドーソンへと逃げる。ところが、砂金の出るドーソンに大金の匂いをかぎつけたギャノンが乗り込んできて、新しい町づくりを夢見る町民の土地を次々と奪いはじめた。人間嫌いで、人助けには無関心だったジェフも、ついに銃を手にギャノンとの対決に臨む。 オリジナル予告編（字幕なし）
