Gamera The Brave (Hong Kong Version)
Gamera The Brave (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
(4)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 1 to 2 daysRelated promotions:November 24, 2007 Flying Family Fun!This is a great movie for 8 year old boys, the monster action is cool and the hero is a young lad who they can identify with.
It is also great for anyone looking for family entertainment. The kid is not annoying and is quite a good little actor as are his friends who help the little turtle (tortoise?) grow up to be a fireball spitting, world saving, flying Gamera!
This is like a superhero origin story, how Gamera comes to be the hero he is, and he needs help from the children to achieve his greatness. The scene of children running against the screaming hordes through the wrecked city can be a bit sugary but it works for me.
The evil monster, the reptillian Zedus, is a good design without being too scary and the grown up Gamera looks great in a well filmed city battle.
A good film to watch with the kids.

Godzilla VS Spacegodzilla (Hong Kong Version)
Godzilla VS Spacegodzilla (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
(1)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysJuly 20, 2007 Space Monster Mayhem! This Godzilla movie does not have the best special effects (the space sequences are poor) , neither does it have the greatest monster villain but it is enjoyable.
Space Godzilla is a mixture of Godzilla cells and space crystals who decides to return to earth and fight the real Godzilla. The cells got into space from the previous films fights with Biollante and Mothra, so a bit of continuity through the series!
The Earth G-force have made another robot to defend us, this time called Mogera - Mogera is a terrible design compared to Mechagodzilla. Mogera can split into ground and air attack vehicles and it does this in the final battle with Space Godzilla and Godzilla in Tokyo. This well orchestrated finale is worth sitting through the film for as this time there are human characters we actually care about.
There is the Major and pilot of Mogera who lost a good friend to Godzilla (in Return of Godzilla), there is the sister of the killed soldier and the two loyal crew of the Mogera, as well as a young telekenetic woman who developes a relationship with one of the crew. They are interesting characters and add a bit of emotion to the battle.
Not the best Godzilla film, but as I said before I watch them with my nephew, and there is enough explosions and destruction to keep everyone happy.
Also the plot of junior godzilla continuies and he is getting bigger and learning the fire atomic breath in this one. The next film we see him in he is not so cute.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

Godzilla - Mothra And King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
(9)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysJanuary 27, 2007 Where is Godzilla? This is meant to be the best of the modern Godzilla movies and there are lots of monsters, the effects are great and the story is very good but I hate it, because of Godzilla!
Only my opinion and everyone has their favourites but he just looks like a waddling chicken in this one, I prefer the Godzilla 2000 look!
The other monsters, Baragon, Mothra and Ghidorah look fantastic and I love the directing and the fight scenes, especially with Baragon at the tourist resort, but I just do not like the godzilla suit and it spoils the whole film for me.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

January 27, 2007 Hong Kong gets trashed! Not just Tokyo gets trashed this time, Hong Kong takes a battering from Godzilla too. In a great opening sequence Godzilla rises in Hong Kong with Radiation breaking out all over his body, he is in foul mood and proceeds to wreck Hong Kong.
The radiation inside the beast is welling up and he is heading for a meltdown of life threatening proportions.
Not only that, the island where little godzilla resided has now sunk and he has grown up to be a junior godzilla. 2 Godzillas for the price of one in this movie!
Before Destoroyah (funny spelling) achieves gigantic proportions there are numerous tank sized versions running around terrorising the humans in the movie, some good action sequences when they are fighting these creatures.
When Destoroyah does arrive he kills junior Godzilla and makes the main godzilla extremely angry forcing him closer to the meltdown which will destroy Tokyo (yes, we are back here!).
Great effects, good story and some decent emotion for the monsters - something I do not get from Gamera!Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

January 27, 2007 A welcome return!Beofre any moans about artistic merit, I watch these films with my nephew and the reveiws are based on enjoyment! We have no problem with the subtitles and soon forget the films are in Japanese.
This was a good film, Godzilla was back, big and bad, no clowning around. Detruction was his main aim and Earth's only defence are the usually ineffective army, a small bubble shaped aircraft - the super X- packed with misslies and lasers and last, but not least, bird calls!
There is a great battle between the Super X and Godzilla in the city and the big green guy goes down - but not out! Skyscrapers are toppled and people flee and what looks to be a full size godzilla foot stomps the ground.
Our only chance is to lure Godzilla into a volcano by enticing him with the bird calls!
Godzilla's eyes are bit big to look real, very cartoony, but we know it is a guy in suit we just enjoy the entertainment.
There is also a really cheesy Godzilla song at the end.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther (US Version)
Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther (US Version) DVD Region 1
(1)Our Price: US$14.98Usually ships within 7 daysSeptember 22, 2006 Comic book cartoonI enjoyed this film but was hoping for a bit more lavish animation. It has the look and feel of the Batman animated series from the 90's but with more realistic figures and more depth to the backdrops, this is not a bad thing but could have been better.
I like the way this animation is not just for children, there are quiet moments in amongst the action to further the plot and keep older fans interested.
The superhero mix is good, Captain America, Giant Man, Iron Man, Thor,Hulk, Wasp, Black widow and Nick Fury of Shield are joined by the Black Panther. All have a decent amount of screen time and all are different characters not just stock superheroes, there are tragic ones, arrogant ones and plain old heroic ones!
The Black Panther gets involved as aliens are attacking his city in Africa, he turns to Captain america for help. The good Captain and the Avengers go in to help causing friction between the Black Panther and his people who wish no help from outsiders. There is a battle with the alien hordes and some quite intense action scenes.
On the DVD there is a preview of further animated adventures for Marvel heroes Iron Man and Doctor Strange, the quality looks good and I am looking forward to more of these animated comic books.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Gamera - The Ultimate Collection (US Version)
Gamera - The Ultimate Collection (US Version) DVD Region 1
(1)Our Price: US$8.49List: US$9.99Save: US$1.50 (15%)September 18, 2006 Old Age Mutant TurtleThere are three films on this DVD, one black and white and two in Colour, so good value for a few laughs.
The picture quality is pretty bad, the dubbing is very much the standard you expect from the sixties and of course the Monsters are unrealistic.
Having said that the films are just dumb fun - Baragon, the monster in the second movie is like a giant lizard with a "scary" Rainbow ray emitted from his back spikes and a freezing gas from his Chameleon like tongue! ( The second colour movie also has footage from this fight so perhaps it is really only two and a half movies on one disc.)
Gamera himself is just the most ungainly creature, he flies like a fiery spinning top and waddles as a turtle would, he is no Godzilla!
The destructable backdrops are great, smashing bridges and buildings and fiery explosions all around - Gamera even breathes fire in what looks like a very dangerous special effect, ie real flames and rubber suits - no CGI back then!
Not the best quality DVD but interesting to see what Directors nowadays grew up on in the science fiction genre of the sixties.

Godzilla VS Megaguirus (Hong Kong Version)
Godzilla VS Megaguirus (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
(1)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysSeptember 16, 2006 Stinger not stinker of a movieThe stinger in the movie is on the end of the giant dragonfly Megaguirus and it gets used to near deadly effect on Godzilla!
I really enjoyed this film, from the opening running battle - mostly at ground level- of the rocket grenade weilding rangers with Godzilla to the great aerial shots of Godzilla trashing the City!
Once again Godzilla is the bad guy that needs to be got rid of, until the weapon designed to do just that causes a greater menace - a swarm of rhino size, armoured dragonflys!
The G Graspers unit (bad name but cool aircraft)are a specialist team suppossed to taking out Godzilla but end up in the middle of the swarm and later swatted by the extreme giant form of the Megaguirus.
There are lots of great shots of destruction in this movie - the long shots with the monsters in the background are very well done, although Godzilla's head just looks too fake close up. Humans get up close and personal to the monsters and one of the G Graspers even rides the back of the swimming Godzilla!
The Godzilla suit has some huge spikes this time around, the Megaguirus model is a bit static but menacing and the whole film runs along at a good pace.
A fun film but the scene of the dragonfly attack in the alleyway is a bit violent for younger kids.

Gamera 2 Assault Of The Legion
August 25, 2006 Flying Turtle vs Giant BugsI have never seen a Gamera Movie before! (shock!) A film with a giant Flying Turtle with big teeth? No, it was so much more!
I really enjoyed this film it had great effects work, they seem to try and keep the camera moving very realistically to make it seem like the bizarre things are real.
A huge, mushroom like pod bursts through a building and is going to release a spore to repopulate, along with this come a Legion of smaller bug creature and a giant Queen. For some reason Gamera does not like this and does his best to destroy the pod, destroying half the city in the process! He is overwhelmed by the smaller bugs and has to flee to get his strength back. He will need it to fight the big, spiky, Queen!
As with traditional giant monster movies we have an assorment of military weaponary trying to blow everything up and a titanic tussle between the creatures!
I do prefer Godzilla but this Gamera is no pushover and I look forward to seeing a few more of his battles.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
