Fantastic!
Fantastic!
|
This Chihiro Onitsuka is THE MOST AMAZING artist EVER in japan.. which is why it is also sad that she is not here anymore.. This concert is stunningly amazing.. i got goosebumps over and over again from her fantastic performance. It's sad that people keep refering to her as a pop-singer, because she actully sings folklore, melancholic ballads and violinistic-masterpieces so please don't walk past this artist. This is really an amazing concert, it's definateliy worth every penny it costs! |

Duelling Pianos
|
The majestic Chihiro at the Budokan in November 2002, but there's something not quite right at times here. She (or is it her arranger Takefumi Haketa) has opted for two pianists playing face to face on Grand pianos, even going for two instrumental tracks (is it right to refer to Beethoven as Instrumental?) at the beginning and in the middle (thinly disguised as an 'Intermission'). Chihiro is on great form. It goes without saying of course, and she's been a bit glammed up since the 'Cradle on my noise' DVD. At times, though, the pianos are far too intrusive. Their biggest sin is the tinkly muzak background to 'Shine'. Chihiro gives it her all, but those pianos are like having someone talking while you are at the cinema. Compare this to the sparse, brilliance of the version on the 'Cradle on my noise' DVD, and the older version wins hands down. In general, though, the queen of J-pop music shows through and the hairs on the arms are made to stand up many times, but it's often a case of defeating the pianists rather than being in unison with them. |
