Produced by Raymond Wong and directed by Stanly Seto and Davie Tam, the 1986 youth film United We Stand doesn't come with friendly spirits, but other than that it fits right in with the style of Wong's Happy Ghost series. Teen actresses in tomboy cuts and tiny shorts go through the trials and tribulations of friendship and competition in this charming track-themed 80s popcorn youth flick. Olivia Cheng takes the senior role amongst a young cast that includes Gigi Lai, Fennie Yuen, and Bonnie Law, all teenagers at the time.

A former sprinter forced to cut her competition life short after a career-ending injury, Coach Wong (Olivia Cheng) is in charge of a girls summer track training program that has attracted up-and-coming athletes of all types and egos. Though the girls are initially skeptical of Wong's abilities, she earns their respect by beating them in race every time. During their tough training, the girls participate in a competition, and emerge as the big winners of the event. Boosted by the victory, the girls become carelessly confident and characters begin to clash as rivalries form among the team members. Their arrogance and lack of team spirit lead to a resounding defeat at the next competition, prompting Wong to quit her position. Only then do the girls realize the importance of their coach's teachings.

揚威世界體壇、有「飛躍羚羊」之稱的著名女田徑家紀政，專程來港出席一暑期田徑訓練計劃及代覓一名教練。黃教練曾是一名出色的短跑選手，因一次比賽意外，不能繼續參賽，遂攻讀教練課程，欲作育英才。初期，各選手自視過高，與黃比試，無人能勝，不禁對黃感佩服。集訓期間，選手們參加一公開比賽，獲得很好的成績，各人因勝利而得意忘形，選手明爭暗鬥，最後敗給新加坡隊，教練一怒之下離去。眾人終於明白教練的苦心，加強團結的精神，努力練習。集訓期末，各人成績都有顯著的進步，並能一一勝過教練，在六角青年田徑邀請賽中，團結的精神令各人將自己的潛能發揮出來，取得勝利。眾人懷著信心代表香港參加世界青年運動會，希望奪標而回。

Alias "Springing Gazelle", the renowned athlete Miss Chi Cheung is helping to organize a training programme and hunting for a coach. Wong Tai Mui (Olivia Cheng), was a former brilliant sprinter who has to give up running after her injury in a competition. At the beginning, the girls despise Wong, until they find that Wong is beyond their challenge, they adore her. But after winning a contest, they feel hostility towards each other and behave proudly. After they lost in the competition, Wong is so furious that she decides to quit. The girls beg her to stay and promise to contribute their best efforts. When they finish their training course, all girls have great improvement. Their co-operative spirit enables them to win the open competition and to represent Hong Kong to attend the World Youth Athletic Game.
