I loved this single!!
Usually in singles the main track is the amazing, but the c/w and b/t are usually not worth listening to. Not the case with this single. While the A-side "Velvet no Yami" is full of richness and dark tones, the c/w "Shunrai" delivers its own punch with its powerful rock instrumentals and melodies more typical of KinKi Kids' style. This is perhaps the only single in which I loved the c/w as much as the A-side. The extra "Anniversary" track was great as well. I love this song as it was the first KinKi Kids' song I listened to, so I was a little worried about the quality of the recording. Thankfully, the cheering fans can only be barely heard near the beginning and then the song itself takes over. There is a lot of echoing of the vocals since it was in a concert hall, but I thought this added to the emotion of the song. Tsuyoshi sounded amazing, and at times I couldn't hear Koichi at all during the chorus. An excellent single with beautiful pictures and tracks. Everyone should buy it!

KinKi Kids 21st hit single
KinKi Kids do it again with their amazing "Velvet no Yami" single. The title track has a very moody, Spanish flair to it and Tsuyoshi and Koichi both do an incredible job with the vocals. Lots strong rhythms and deep undertones; I loved this song. The c/w Shunrai is also a great track with lots of harmonizing between the two. I love the repeating and overlapping melodies in the chorus. 10 years is a beautiful ballad and if you can get a hold of a translation, the lyrics are really deep and meaningful. The single is amazing, the pictures were gorgeous (although I wish there were more. Only three total in the six-page booklet), and Koichi and Tsuyoshi were fantastic. I expected nothing less out of KinKi Kids and this single did not fail to meet my expectations. I encourage everyone to purchase this single!!!

Velvet No Yami ltd. version
Absolutly awesome! Im glad I pre ordered this because I got it the day it was released in JP. Velvet no Yami kind of reminds me of NatsunoOsama a little bit. I never had any idea what a accordian really could sound like untill now. The 3 songs and the backing track on this limited version are great and addicting. Ive allready lost count at how many times Ive played this and I think YOU will too so get it while you can. Ive allways had a good time singing along with Koichi. Over all seems to be more Tsuyoshi heavy however and that should please the Tsuyoshi people out there. Perfect 10 once agian. Dont miss out on this ok!

Perfect
This single is absolutely the best! All three songs are great! "Velvet no Yami" with such a great dance music tone, which makes you feel great, and also reminds you about what summer is all about. "Shuurai" is just other Jpop songs; however, its great melody, plus Tsuyoshi's great voice (sorry about not to mention Koichi, because I'm not his fan><), it can impresss you easily! The last song "10years" is very catching, very soft and smooth melody, with meaningful lyric, how can you ever miss such a fabulous song?! It is a must buy, not only KinKi fans...but if you are a Jpop fans, then you must get this!

It's Standard KinKi--but it's OK
This is typical KinKi Kids with the upbeat, happy and sweet sounds with Tsuyoshi's voice leading most of the entire single. "Velvet no Yami" (aka "Biro-do no Yami" ["Velvet Darkness"]) is a smooth jazzed-up salsa number with accordions and drums. It's what I like to call a "pretty" fast ballad. If you already have every KinKi Kids album and single, then you'll definitely want this. If you only like KinKi Kids gems, then you should probably avoid this single unless you really, really like track 2 (which I do). Track 2, "Shunrai" ("Spring Thunder") is light rock mixed with that KinKi Kids charm. Once again, Tsuyoshi's voice pushes the song through, but Koichi adds that special touch of sweetness that Tsuyoshi's more alternative voice doesn't. I haven't heard the live version of "Anniversary," nor have I sampled the "10years" song on the Limited version, but this is a solid single release from KinKi Kids. In order to beefen it up, they even included a nice lyrics booklet, perfect for fans. Overall, I am a little disappointed. I expected more growth from the two, especially since Koichi and Tsuyoshi made major solo releases in 2004. If there is a DVD version released, I'd recommend it though. The dance moves are fun and who doesn't love a man who can shimmy-shimmy salsa??!
