Professional Review of "Viola (Japan Version)"

March 23, 2004

This song is a new release from the artist whose ?YUME biyori? (ending theme for the popular cartoon program Doraemon) has attracted fans from children to housewives. Viola?s ?erhu? and ?yang qin? (ancient Chinese string instruments) lend an oriental taste and its folklore ambience exudes a grandness of scale. The result is a composition that swells with novelty and charm. Adults will appreciate Hitomi?s grace, elegance, and vocal breadth as she subtly controls her singing to express the sorrow in the verse. A viola is a wild type of pansy that is lovely and delicate, but its firm roots give it a strong will that can withstand adverse wind and weather.

Another Success Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I've enjoyed Shimatani's unique style in the past, and in this single she did it again! Both tracks are great, but my favorite is "Viola". It's jpop mixed with traditional Asian instruments. That doesn't sound like a good combination, but it actually is really good! The melody is very catchy, and will stay with you for days!

Recommended for all jpop fans! This artist is talented!

This is the most perfect bland of dance and ethnicity ever made. This is the song that really got me hooked on j-pop and Hitomi Shimatani and this song is her greatest ever. Her voice is as always perfect. She is one of the best singers in j-pop. THe PV is also wonderful. THis song is perfect.

Wonderful~ Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
After hearing "Viola," it now my favorite song by Hitomi Shimatani next to "Perseus". This song has a beat of old-japanese style songs mixed with modern music, and this is such a wonderful combination! (If you enjoyed "Perseus," surely you will love "Viola" too) ^_^. I was lucky enough to see the "Viola" PV and can confidentially say that this is hitomi's best PV yet--with Hitomi dancing in different ccolors outfits among fall blossom petals...This is truly a great single!
