YesAsia Editorial Description
After JFK and Nixon, Oliver Stone tackles yet another American president in his latest biopic! Unlike the two previous films, W. was filmed while the title character was still in office. It was released near the end of George W. Bush's term, just before the presidential election of 2008, but the outspoken, liberal director wasn't out to make a propaganda film against the already unpopular Republican head of state. Rather, Stone lends a sympathetic look at this controversial figure, depicting important events in his life before and during his presidency.
The biggest merit of the film could be its stellar cast. Josh Brolin has won unanimous acclaim for his portrayal of "Dubya". He gains powerful support from Elizabeth Banks (as Laura Bush), James Cromwell (as Bush Senior), Ellen Burstyn (as Barbara Bush), Richard Dreyfuss (as Dick Cheney), Jeffrey Wright (as Colin Powell), Scott Glenn (as Donald Rumsfeld), Thandie Newton (as Condoleezza Rice), and Ioan Gruffudd (as Tony Blair).
Fans of Asian Cinema would be interested to learn that the film was partly financed by Hong Kong's Emperor Motion Pictures, and famous socialite/actress Teresa Cheung (Color Blossoms) made a cameo appearance in it.
