YesAsia Editorial Description

For his latest release Jacky Cheung could not help but choose the Korean song "Gift" out of hundreds of picks, because of its catchy tune. As for the song "Coffee", it was composed by the gifted Yun Ling Huang. Of course, this incomparable album also features Jacky's touching Cantonese lullaby "I have you"!

In addition he is joined by 3 Canto-pop divas, performing "From Start to Finish" with Coco Lee, "Male Aged 40" with Anita Mui and "Day & Night" with Sandy Lam! Don't miss this historical album that exceeds all expectations!

This special Super Audio CD comes with an exclusive DVD that contains the 'Making of' "Where Is He" documentation!

Professional Review of "Where Is He (SACD)"

February 26, 2003

This professional review refers to Where is He (CD+VCD)(Special Edition)

Stressed? Have some "Coffee," with Jacky. Jacky Cheung hits on three major genres (soft ballad, acoustic rock, R&B) in this album and does well with all of them. The production is modern and thrusts Cheung's vocals into a more appealing fashion, no longer the overdone slow melodies of the mid-late nineties. Don't overlook, though, Jacky's work with acoustic rock of which a third of the album consists, and even though we know him as a crooner, he rocks out pretty well.
The producers come well equipped with understanding of popular songs in other regions and cultures. Tracks 4 and 5's musical arrangement and main melody almost samples those of British/American Christian worship. Track 4 uses energetic pick-up acoustics that reminds us of Chris Tomlin and Track 5's verses and prechorus heavily influenced by such melodies as Matt Redman's "Heart of Worship."

Jesse's Journey into Selected Tracks:
Track 5. The title track is good but nothing like Track 5. As great as it is, though, Track 5 serves as somewhat of an antithesis because the chorus does not do justice to the beautiful composition of the verse and prechorus. The prechorus practically revives the song and though short, it sticks out beautifully as it plays off the transition chords from the end of the verse to the beginning of the chorus. After the lead-in, you'd expect an exploding flower of a chorus, but you get a leveled-down piece. It's not bad, but it's not good enough. Overall, though, this watered-down chorus does not put on a wet enough blanket to spoil the greatness of the song. And by the way, the orchestral intro and interludes and lush guitars only make the excellence more convincing.

Track 6. It's hard to distinguish if this song or coffee will wake you up more. It's not a bumping, pump-you-up song, but definitely an inspirational ballad. Anyway, this song is one of those that you can hear from a distance and suddenly stop whatever you're doing and go, what was that?? You'd probably wake up with a sweet dream in memory with this song playing lightly in the background. The first two segments of the chorus create a stirring beat that is then answered by a series of rise and falls in the following four segments, each with its unique beat to complete a mastered melody. The chorus is pretty unbelievable; they should have inserted this chorus into Track 5!
Track 8 has a great production and catchy minor keys playing deeply in the background. Jacky does great background work in this song. It's superb when during the prechorus, the main lead rises up in a melody and then is answered by his own background in a skippy, dropping melody. He understands how to be gentle with his commanding voice. Again, chorus is catchy especially when complimented with the light taps on the center of the cymbal.

Track 9 must be special as it is the Korean "Gift" that Jacky wishes to introduce. I must say the songwriting is okay, but lifted to a higher level by Jacky; he really saved this track. Otherwise it would have sounded like a nineties song with a midlife crisis due to its retro style and arrangement.

Track 12. With Coco Lee, this song really goes more in the direction of her style, which is good because it brings out the youth in Jacky's voice. The arrangement is reminiscent of Coco's "Before I Fall in Love." The background guitar really sets the tempo of the song, making it more of a fast pop song.

Jesse's Junction:
Good productions in Track 2 and Track 3. The guitar playing is powerful and soothing. Track 3 is interesting as is Track 7, with Jacky's English improving.

Favorites: Track 4, 5, 6, 8, 9
Classic Jacky: Track 10
Best Vocal: Track 5 (Great switch into higher octave)
Best Song: Track 5 (Those verses!)
Best Production: Track 8 (R&B)

Jesse's Advice:
Want something to follow-up with Jay? Get Jacky. He's right here.

WOW...great album! WORTH TO BUY! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This special edition of Jacky Cheung rocks! Although I'm not his real fans, and I seldom purchase his albums but I'd really like his songs & I admit that he has good voice though. You can also listen to the 3 great singers of Coco Lee, Anita Mui and Sandy Lam to perform three duet songs in this album. Plus, it's a must buy collection becoz it comes with a VCD that contains 8 extra MVs and Karaoke of Jacky's latest hits! hoho! don't miss it! It's kinda worthy to buy!

This is what I call a worthy edition of the origin Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
As far back as the late 1990's, record companies are after our money by publishing second, third and even fourth editions (maybe an even a ridiculous fifth, if there was any) of the original CD, by releasing one or two new songs; or a making of a music video special on VCD/DVD; or one to five songs onto VCD/DVD, that comes with original CD, as part of the CD package. They release the so called "second", "third", and so forth editions after a few days, a month or a few months apart. I know record companies don't like me talking about this, but most of it, is the truth. But this CD package is an exception. 10 songs onto a VCD of excellent quality, some of which I personally haven't seen......at least five songs he performed I haven't seen in the past on JadeWorld and TVBS Asia, in Sydney, Australia. I especially loved the second song - "Can't Walk Off", in form of a series of animated cartoons. That alone, made me felt this CD package is well worth my money, because animated cartoon music videos are pretty rare in the Chinese speaking world, but pretty prevalent in English speaking countries. You may call me a biased person, but that's my opinion. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but if I did, I'm sorry. The other nine songs were very well performed by Jacky. Just a world class act all the way.
