"Winter Days" (Fuyu no hi) is an anthology of short animation films based on the Renku style of poetry from Japan - a series of linked haiku where each poet uses the last line of the previous poem. Thirty-five animation artists from the world over collaborated on this film, including Kawamoto Kihachiro (puppet animator from Japan), Yuri Norshtein (animation poet from Russia), Bretislav Pojar (animation artist from Chechoslovakia), and Yamamura Koji (animator from Japan).
The poems originate from the legendary haiku poet Basho's book entitled "Seven Anthologies of the Basho School), which he created with his students in Nagoya. The latter half of the film includes making-of featurettes overviewing each animator's sequence and explaining techniques, etc.
A beautiful work combining poetry and anime, this collection is a wonderful addition to the collection of any lover of anime or haiku.
In addition to the feature, this complete box set includes making-of featurettes, commentaries, and more in 8 additional disks, making this a treasure for hardcore anime fans of those aspiring to work as anime artists themselves.
