Additional Comments Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I meant to say that 'Art is frozen music' in my previous review. Kyo's vocals are sweet and captivating. Don't take my words, get this CD to see for yourself! My favorite 5 stars tracks are:1,5,6,9,10,13 & 14. Tracks 4 and 8 are 4 stars.

A Pleasant Surprise! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I took the advise of LaLa and Ryon, and bought this CD. It's a pleasant surprise because I only expected 3 or 4 tracks to be my favorites, instead I have 7. I think that I'm slowly becoming Kyo and Dir en Grey's fan. The music in this CD is less dark than I had expected. My favorites tracks are their more 'mellow' ones. If 'music is frozen art', then Kyo's scream is analogues to Edvard Munch's 'The Scream' and Hide's is similar to Willem de Kooning's. I'm happy that Dir en Grey let me experience it! So, Ityale: Do you agree?

THE BEST! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is by far the best CD I have in my HUGE CD collection! My mom bought this for me, to make up for not letting me go to their "non-kid-friendly" concert. I popped the CD in the car and there wasn't a single song here that I didn't like. I absolutely loved the second track, C and SAKU was amazing, it just stuck to me like glue. This song more screaming than singing, but that's Kyo's specialty, right? Kyo sings beautifully in the song KODOKU NI SHISU, YUENI KODOKU. The melody will definately make you want to listen to it over and over again, and no, you will NEVER get sick of it, believe me. Moving on to track 6, it was the funniest song I have heard in my life. It was my irst time listening to it, and that was when I realized that like the whole song was in english XD. IT'S SOOO FUNNY! My mom and I couldn't stop laughing! He's trying to say Jesus Christ Rock and Roll, heehee, but it comes out like "Jeezu Cry, Uh, rOG N raw" Trust me you'll crack up, if you know English. It's still a good song, besides the vocals. It's amazingly catchy! I love when the chorus says, "Ominous Communication!" I luffs it soo much. You could say the song JESUS CHRIST R'n R is actually the best song on the whole CD! GARBAGE is pure Dir en Grey. I love it, when he yells, it actually has a neat tune to it, rather than just weird American bands screaming obliviously. This song might creep you out if you're like alone and it's night time. DEAD TREE was an eerie song, pure OMGOSHESS SCREAMING! Kyo's vocals are simply beautiful, it kinds reminds me of their visual-kei days. SPILLED MILK seemed sort of similare to the other songs for some reasons, but nonetheless, it's very catchy, I'm sure you'll feel like dancing crazily to it. KODOU is just.. when I first heard it, I felt like crying. I'm pretty sure it was about a suicidal kid.. I think Toshiya played as him in the PV... correct me if I'm wrong. Well, you've heard enough from me, now go and BUY IT! Get it at Strawberries Music Store and you can get it for $13!!

Different Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Change isn't always a bad thing, but it's not always a good thing either. Most of the songs on this album I was able to like right away, but of course there are always some songs you'll have to listen to for a while before you start to like it and some you just won't like at all. I don't think they're getting Americanized or whatever, but they do scream alot more now like American music. It still doesn't sound the same. But think about it, they've been around for about 10 years and they're old enough to be some of our parents. I don't think anyone stays the same for that long, especially at that age (I'm not saying they're really old, they're just not kids anymore). I really like this album and appreciate it as much as their older stuff, but I do kinda wish for the old stuff more. Still a really good album.

Not my style, but I liked it. Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I usually don't listen to this kind of music and thought Dir en Grey was all "scream my head off, roar, metal, boom, boom"... well, very noisy. I have sensitive hearing, but my friends insisted that I'd try this album out and it was released on my birthday, so I gave it a shot. Dir en grey was what I expected, very noisy, thankfully there's an option in Itunes to turn the bass down, so my ears don't hurt. Some songs are very good, I really like "Marchiavellism", "Jesus Christ r'n'r", "Merciless Cult" and "The Final". Kyo, the singer, changes between singing and screaming, and his voice is so cool, I just love when he starts screaming. This CD was better than I expected.

Withering to death. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I will admit, I was not a big fan of this album once I first got my hands on it. I think what really rekindled my interest in this album, was the release of the 'dead tree' PV only recently. It made me stop and think about where Dir en grey was going, and what they were trying to portray with this album. Listening to this album again, plunged me into a world of such dark beauty and angst, I fell in love with the band all over again. This album is quite hard, but the music I find to be so sublime that you have to listen. It's really quite entrancing, and I support their diversty. It's quite silly to try and sort this band into a catagory stereotype like "Nu-metal" and "Wannabe Hardcore." Dir en grey cannot be sorted. This album is an aquired taste, but it will definitely grow on you. I encourage any new-comer to the band to pick it up, and other fans to pick it up and give it a third or fourth listen to.

Don't let purists fool you. Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This album is glorious. Anyone who started this "they're turning American!" rumor is a loser, really. They sound NOTHING like Slipknot. And nu-metal is hip hop beats and neo-rap lyrics. Geez.

This album is no KISOU or Macabre, but is no doubt no worse nor better. Every song shines on this album, no originality or variety? Uh, Machiavellism and Jesus Christ R'nR, anyone? GARBAGE is SUCH a entertaining song, if you give it a few listens, it grows on you. dead tree is filled with so much pain. Merciless Cult is so brutal yet so beautiful.

Listen, people. Dir en Grey were never a pretty band. Even during the GAUZE era. They were bound to become dark, moody, and obscene. Get over it and go listen to some Gackt if you can't handle it. You can whine about those no more Yokan or Mushi like songs anymore, and complain about no more "originality." For your information, in Japan they are going down a VERY original path. In a culture where everything's pretty, cute and upbeat, Dir en grey are like a thorn sticking out reminding people things are not what they seem.

About Kyo's vocals. He's not a happy person. Never was. I'm proud of him because he's not caring that people think doing whatever he wants. (Which includes a lot of screaming. O_o) Sure, it'll be nice to her him sing more, because his voice is lovely. But that's his choice. Does an artist paint a picture to please people and make money? Or paint because he wishes to put his mind on canvas?

Thank you Dir en Grey for reminding me that life is not bliss and for letting people know that they are not the only one to see corruption.

I hope they continue doing what they feel is right. If you have sampled a bit of Dir en Grey, any album by them is great. Including this one, it's worth the money.

Awesome Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This album is fricking awesome. It's a pretty big change. However... its another CD that shows how diverse they are. I remember when I was first introduced to Dir en grey... reading a review something along the lines "all of their cd's are different, which is good because many bands have songs and cd's that all sound the same and are boring."
Dir en grey fans have changed so much... now their all whining about how hard their new CD is and that it sounds like noise and how different it is. I personally think all those people are just whiny 16 yr olds who listen to jpop more than anything, and are just "soft-core". If you really love dir en grey and you really love their style, and darkness.. you'll really like this CD. If you only listen to songs like "Mushi" and "Embryo" (love those too) but don't listen to songs like "Obscure" then don't buy it.

It's alright... Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
It's not that bad... but not that good either, haha. There are a few bad apples on this album, but tracks like "The Final", "Dead Tree", "Machiavellism", and "Kodou" (my personal favorite) save it. If you're new to Dir en grey and thinking about picking this album up, by all means, go for it... but get Kisou along with it, haha.

Variety? Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
Is Variety dead?
Does all our music have to sound the same but not ground breaking in anyway?
Well, Dir en Grey certianlly seemed to think so when they recorded this alltogether comptent but highly predictable album. Piror to my ourchase of this album I had heard "Saku" and I didnt mind it tbh, as it seemed like it set a pace for the album. However, the aforementioned pace beacame all to familliar after the first 3 tracks when you realise that this alum is just an excuse to hear Kyo growl badly over tracks. Dont get me wrong, I love heavy vocal's BUT Kyo's voice sounds better singign/screaming from time to time. This album just left me a bit disatisfied.
