Wonder Girls First Single - The Wonder Begins

The Wonder Begins with K-pop's latest girl group Wonder Girls. Though pop groups may seem plentiful in the Korean music scene, the Wonder Girls are almost certainly bound for great things as the members were selected and trained by none other than Rain's producer, Park Jin Young. All five members went through a series of competitive auditions through shows sponsored by SBS or MTV, before making it to JYP. The five girls, aged 15 to 18, are still quite young, but are already showing uncommon talent in their debut single. The Wonder Begin consists of three songs and one remix track, all produced by Park Jin Young. Irony is a catchy, up-tempo hip hop number, while Bad Boy is an innovative electronic R&B song. The girls also show their softer side with the mid-tempo ballad "A Sorry Mind" (Track 3). The Wonder Begins marks a very promising start for K-pop's newest sensation.

박진영의 첫 여성그룹 출사표로 기대를 모았던 원더걸스(Wonder Girls)가 드디어 오는 2월 13일 첫 번째 싱글을 발매하고 데뷔한다. 이 여성 5인조 그룹은, 2001년 SBS를 통해 방송된 박진영의 "영재 육성 프로젝트 99%의 도전"을 통해 최종 선발된 민선예를 비롯, 각종 오디션을 통해 선발된 인재들의 조합인 것으로 알려져, 기대치를 증폭시켰었다.

이번 싱글은 박진영이 직접 총 프로듀서를 맡아 작업을 했으며, 특유의 귀에 쏙쏙 감기는 후렴구가 일품인 '아이러니(Irony)' 타이틀 곡을 비롯, 2곡의 댄스 곡과 1곡의 발라드 곡, '아이러니(Irony)' Remix 버전이 담겨 있다. 타이틀 곡 'Irony'는 힙합 리듬 위에 누구나 쉽게 따라 부를 수 있는 중독성 강한 후렴구가 매력적인 곡으로, 크리스 브라운의 'run it'등 빌보드 상위권 곡들을 믹스한 미국의 Brian Stanley가 믹스 작업을 맡아 최상의 사운드를 들려준다. 역동적인 안무와 보컬이 10대 소녀들이라 믿기지 않을 만큼 인상적인 곡이다.
