YesAsia Editorial Description

Canto-pop and movie super diva Sammi hopes to encourage Hong Kong's frustrated citizens by offering the song "Believe in Yourself" on her new album "Wonder Woman"

Another main track of the new release is "Not Lying to Each Other", which even though being a love song comes in the company of a MV clip that has a murder case and the struggle for justice as backbone. In addition, "Wonder Woman" was selected as title theme of the Asian Games Exhibition in 2002.

This version comes with a VCD, which contains two MV clips and an AVCD that offers the CGMV and a production documentation of "Wonder Woman" plus its Club mix version!

Just ok Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
This album is not as good as the other albums from Sammi. Some songs are good but just stop at the word "OK". The other songs are really boring and spoil the whole album. I can't find any song that called a hit in this album.

Hated this one Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
Hated this Wonder Woman AVCD Sammi recorded. Only a few catchy tunes worth listening to. The rest is awful music. Her singing is decent. BUT she sounds like she does not care for these songs. This AVCD seemed a rushed production. Another time filler album to hold fans attention.

Excellent work sammi Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
If you are wondering whether Sammi Cheng is really “Wonder Woman,?wonder no more. Her latest effort is wonderful, and nothing less. The album could have been more; a few of the tracks are cluttered and poorly composed with the exception of four tracks. Nevertheless the production is great and professional; the arrangements at most times sound common and the uniqueness remains in the main lead. Most of her songs are strong hints of soft rock and acoustic rock. The first two tracks integrate Sammi’s voice with the style well; the snare programming is thick and convincingly real. At the same time, Sammi has taken a more laid back approach and loosened up her normally tense voice.

Visually, the sleeve and cd inserts flatter Sammi’s beauty, and not to mention, the music video of Track 2 that basically films her looking pretty. The video would be better had the shots and stills matched the rhythm of the song. The modern stylistic and youthful images of Sammi go hand in hand with the album, a contemporary, sincere piece of art.

Although Sammi only wrote lyrics for one track, Track 3, and does not do much else in apparent involvement, she blends in well with the music, a sign of a professional singer.

Jesse’s Journey into Selected Tracks:

Track 1. Definitely a contemporary rock piece, the production does an awesome job rocking out with a thick combination of snare, toms, and crashes. It is still a pop melody but the heavier arrangement brings the song back a few years. The short indie rock intro and the harmonica reflect American Southern rock, a new style yet to be thoroughly explored and displayed in East Asia. But what retains the pop attitude is the short orchestral lines and guitar scale lines playing after the first chorus. The beat of the first verse is catchy and upbeat, and the chorus rocks in with a bold sliding of the bass. Great production.

Track 2. This a good acoustic track to learn from if you’re a songwriter. The lyrics follow the beat very well and rises and falls in cycles to keep the melody moving; to move into the prechorus, you hit a few minors to change the mood, and before you know it you’re headed straight for a chorus. The only criticism is the weak volume of the snare which could have brought the song up. The variation at the last chorus keeps the main melody from overkill.

Track 3. These lyrics were written by Sammi, and the production sounds strikingly similar to the style of Leon and Lui, sort of a techno-rock mix. What thrusts this song into a more trance, rave style of music is the keys and strings that rise and fall randomly in key in the background. The production is full, well-organized, consistent, and nothing is out of place.

Track 5 is a reminder of the glory days of Canto-rock on a lighter level. This song incorporates brooding electric guitars and flamenco solos that create a somber, quiet mood in the beginning before the second time around when the bass kicks in to make the song rock more, but this track does not try to outdo itself and perform a contrast that only such bands as Creed can perform. Instead, the song returns to its original form, a song writing style that gives the listener a feeling of a complete song.

Track 10. You can listen to this track over and over again, and enjoy it increasingly. The vocal is beautiful, rich, and balanced. The chorus line rising up and down from two light notes evokes emotions. The piano intro with minor notes foretells and is befitting of the overall song, which is light, moving, high in tone, and flowy.

You will absolutely love this album. It is upbeat and easy-listening at the same time.

SAMMI'S COOL! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I'm a Sammi fan so I bought this CD without hearing anything about it, but I'm happy that I did. I love the album and songs. She's a very talented singer and actress. The album includes ballads as well as fast songs, so having a mixture was good. I especially love the main title song, "Wonder Woman", it has a really catchy tune and chorus. Keep up the great work, Sammi! We'll support you in whatever you do.
