Nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Actress at the 1988 Hong Kong Film Awards, Wonder Women follows the plight of two women who hope to make it big, but keep falling flat. Written and helmed by actor, producer, CEO, style icon, and occasional director Kam Kwok Leung, the film stars acclaimed actresses Carol Cheng and Cecilia Yip as the titular "Wonder Women" with not-so-wonderful lives. Weaving comedy out of the protagonists' personalities and predicaments, Wonder Women takes viewers through a bumpy journey of self-realization, complete with elbow jabbing, finger pointing, rumor mongering, and maybe even friendship.

Leung (Carol Cheng) and Ling (Cecilia Yip) both entered the Miss Hong Kong beauty pageant in hopes of attaining fame and fortune. Their dreams seem sure to come true in the days leading up to the pageant as they attract media buzz left and right, but in the end they both go home empty-handed. That's only the beginning of their misfortunes. Ling returns to work only to quit in fury after getting mocked by her coworkers, and Leung fails her interview at a television station. As misery loves company, they end up friends but it's competition all over again when they both fall for the handsome Wong.

七月是選美的旺季，各方佳麗都摩拳擦掌，改頭換面，準備展開一年一度的比賽。梁好逑和連子蓉為了改善生活，亦不約而同參加選美。大選前夕，二人被各大八卦報章雜誌選為熱門，但卻雙雙落選。連更被男友拋棄，為同病相憐的梁所收留。連重回工作，卻遭同事奚落，憤然辭職；梁也因到電視臺試鏡被人譏笑，二人遂成為好友。這時一個自稱日本華僑的青年闖入她們的生活裏，她倆對他一見傾心，互相爭奪。二人在明爭暗鬥中友誼決裂，直至知道此人本為遊手好閒之輩才夢如初醒，遂重新審視自己，開始了新的生活。

This is an outrageous comedy about seven days in the life of two girls Leung and Ling, who want to skyrocket to the top by entering a beauty pageant. Both girls are ballyhooed as the hottest contestants, but at the end neither can make it to the top 5! What's more, Ling is dumped by her boyfriend, and gets fired at the same time. Being afraid of going home to get along with her father. Leung gives her a hand, inviting Ling to stay with her in her roof-top bungalow. Then they begin their days of similar conscious degradation, which force them to become best friends. But their friendship becomes short-lived when they run into a handsome and well-built young man Wong. They start to vie for his attention and his sex. However, before the climax of their war comes, they find out that he's a dawdler. Shattered by the fact, the two girls eventually come to team with one another.
