Gigi Leung and Fiona Sit are the eponymous Wonder Women in this popular melodrama from Barbara Wong, director of the acclaimed documentary Women's Private Parts. Released to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Handover, Wonder Women presents some of the most difficult events in recent Hong Kong history, all of them shouldered by dignified, strong modern women.

Gigi Leung stars as the main "Wonder Woman", Joy Shing, a respected professional and a loving mother, who is promoted to Chief Financial Officer of her company on the very same evening that her husband To Lam (George Lam) is ousted as CEO. His replacement is the handsome, Mainland-connected Ching Bit-Chung (Nie Yuan), who has his own romantic designs on Joy. But Joy has little time for romance, with both financial and personal losses mounting. Her neighbor (Hui Siu Hung) cheats her out of millions of dollars, leading to a bitter falling out with her childhood sweetheart (Kevin Cheng). Also, her husband falls deep into debt, and the ensuing spiral of misfortune threatens to tear their family apart. But with the outbreak of SARS comes Joy's most terrible loss of all.

A melodrama that pulls few punches, Wonder Women walks viewers through the most difficult times in recent Hong Kong History, depicting the Asian Financial Crisis, Hong Kong real-estate crash, and SARS as real and frightening events, touching the lives of everyday people. At the same time, the film is a celebration of friendship and life, and of the resiliency of Hong Kong people in these most trying times. Gigi Leung was lauded by Hong Kong film critics for her strong performance, while Fiona Sit delivers a colorful turn as Joy's lively assistant Tung.

But Joy, with the help of her optimistic assistant Tung (Sit), bravely faces her obstacles with dignity and hope.
