Cursed with Royalty Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
People generally think that it would be great to be King, but in this series we see that it is truly lonely at the top. So it was especially in late 18th century Korea. The story starts with young Yi San, later known as King Jeongjo, and son of the tragic Crown Prince Sado, who grows up in a very troubled royal family. His position as Heir to his grandfather's throne is shaky due to the political dominance of the Noron party and it's behind-the-scenes masters who will do anything to stay in power.

Young Yi San encounters two peasant children and finds in them friends he can trust through a promise and a bond that lasts into adulthood. Orphaned Seong Sung Yeon who has inherited her father's artistic talent, cannot realize her dreams to be an artist because she is female. Park Dae Su is a peasant boy with strength but little future, but both pledge to serve and protect the young prince.

Yi San must successfully navigate his way through challenges ranging from the heartlessness of his grandfather King Yeongjo to the treachery of the ministers of the Royal Court. One misstep and he could not only lose his throne, but his life.

This drama was made by the director of Dae Jang Geum, and you will also see many cast members featured in DJG, but I think this one is much better. Even though it is not strictly accurate in a historical sense, (it is a drama after all) the production values are excellent and it has a great story. Highly recommended.
