boring sad tv drama
boring sad tv drama
victor chen also needs acting lessons (as well as music lessons - he sings the main theme song to this tv drama show). he does not show any deep emotions and he does not make much facial expressions, almost like staring into space. his mandarin is not good. must look at the chinese subtitles to know what he is saying. want to watch the show. but spend most of time reading the subtitles. the actors need to speak clearly. or was there something wrong with the microphones when filming? ridiculous. the story is very sad. this is so typical of taiwan shows. they like to make sad stories and they drag for such a long time with so many chapters. boring as hell. just cannot keep the attention of the audience. too long to waste time watching. and it is too much money for this bad show.

cute series
this was a cute series with a sweet story. but the ending was just ok. it's annoying when somebody has to die when they just could have lived. and some things they talked about was just left out in the end. and the packaging was poor. big bulky box.

Boring
The story dragged too long and boring. There were so many actors and actresses involved and the story kept overlapping. Kind of disappointed in Victor's first tv series. I bought this movie because it has Peter Ho in it, but he was only in a very few scenes, not even a supporting actor.

Very Good
You Jian Ju Hua Xiang aka First Love is a very good show starring Hong Kong singer/actor Victor Chen and Taiwanese popular newcomer Chen Yi Rong (known for her role in Lavender with Ambrose Hsu). Victor Chen plays the part of Tu Kai Xiang who designs parks and recreational places. Chen Yi Rong plays the part of Hai Wei (aka Ju Zi Mei, tangerine girl) who is a tourist agent. Tu Kai Xiang has been in love with Ju Zi Mei since elementary school. One day Ju Zi Mei was upset and was sitting in the small church. Tu Kai Xiang gives her a tangerine to cheer her up and she gives him a paper ring she made. That is the day that he fell in love with her. One day, Ju Zi Mei and her mother leaves the village to go to Taipei. Her mother has been seeing a therapist for the past several years and constantly has nightmares about the past. Her mother fights very hard to keep her past hidden from Ju Zi Mei. Her mother does not allow Ju Zi Mei to go back to the village and never to contact any of her elementary classmates. One day Ju Zi Mei's tour bus gets stuck and she ends up in the village where she grew up. She keeps going back to visit it. Soon the secrets of the past start to unravel, especially when she rekindles her love with Tu Kai Xiang. Her mother forbids her to be involved in a relationship with Tu Kai Xiang. Why? This is revealed in the show. I really enjoyed watching this show. Some people may find it slow, but that is the beauty of this show. The slowness of it is the right pace for this show, it gives it a more calm feeling for the irony of the tragedy. Victor Chen made a good first attempt into acting. Although I found some of his facial expressions and mannerisms to be a bit contrived, I still found him to be a joy to watch. Chen Yi Rong gives a very good performance and is very enjoyable to watch. She brings out the struggle, pain, sweet, gentle, caring features of Ju Zi Mei. The picture quality of the dvd is excellent. The colors are wonderful and the sound quality is amazing. Also, the theme song is absolutely beautiful and is sang by Victor Chen.

Like a slow dance

As a tale about first love, Lavender, also starring Chen Yi Rong, would be a more satisfying series. This series lacks the sentimentality of Lavender, the sizzle and droolsworthy cast of Meteor Garden. What it has though, is family drama and a thinner than paper romance. If you're looking for a good, gripping romance, sorry, you're looking for it at the wrong series. Victor is inept at his first foray into acting. His portrayal of Du Kai Xiang evokes no particular feeling in me. His acting is wooden and has absolutely no chemistry with any of his co-stars. His Mandarin is passable, but he looks too much like his sister for me to truly get comfortable with him. As a leading make, he lacks the X-factor Jerry Yan and Ambrose Hsu so easily brings to screen. Chen Yi Rong excels in this role of a strong-willed woman who has a past to hide. Her Xiang Hai Wei is soft, with a core of steel. She's pretty enough to make you root for her, but not pretty enough for you to hate. She lights up the screen whenever she appears. The opposite could be said of the other female lead, Kwan Ying. She's so hot she makes your teeth ache, but annoys the hell whenever she appears. She plays Hai Wei's best mate, Xin Lei, who is waiting to fulfill a promise made by her boyfriend years ago. There is a subplot revolving around Victor's sister and Xin Lei's brother, and that's even more interesting than the main romance. The soundtrack is boring, even predictable. There are some humourous bits here and there, but not even to redeem the series. If you simply have to watch it, the mystery of what happened to separate the young Kai Xiang and his Ju Zi mei might intrigue, but only for about 10 seconds. |
