Talent at work Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is a great movie. Sound plays a key part in the film, appropriately given the lead character. Rolling dice, workers in a field, the tap-dance finale - nicely done. Violent as one should be expecting, but there's depth here too.

One of those 'must watch' movies. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This film easily hits that sweet spot of fun, watchability and quality.

I'm finding it hard to describe what it is I like so much about this movie as so much is worth talking about. Set in a feudal Japan with wandering Samurai but touched with just the right amount of weird. The 'fights' as they are take the form of a kind of quick sword draw that reminds me of gun fights in a Sergio Leone spaghetti western.

The only small criticism I have is that some of the characters aren't as fleshed out as I would have liked, especially the brother and sister. This is a very small issue and in no way affects how enjoyable a watch this film is.

Modernization of a classic Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I really didn't know what to expect but I knew of the old Zatoichi series & thought I'd check this out. Glad I did. It is a recent installment with up to date special effects with some quirky Japanese humor scattered throughout the movie if you disregard the dance routine at the end. The pseudo comic relief is unexpected & there are some interesting characters in this story that keeps the audiences' attention. Definately worth a look-see if you're wanting up-date your samurai collection.

long but not boring Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Another of the famous Japanese blind swordsman tale. Undoubtedly lots of baddies killed. The Americans could learn how to save all their bullets, bullets that only make massive destructions. As always Samarai films are not only just about fighting and splashing blood, there are usually a few twists behind a good story.

Unexpected but brilliant Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I was unsure about purchasing this movie but now that i have i'm glad i did, as with all 'Beat' Takeshi films there's always unexpected content and style but i never thought i would see comedy too (which is brilliant), the story is quite complex in that there are sub-plots for many of the characters but i found that it made it even more interesting, as far as the swordsmanship goes, i thought the action sequences were very good, Takeshi makes a great Zatoichi, and he also received the silver lion prize for best director. The effects are obviously CGI but still very well done, so if you are looking for a good samurai movie i think you would be suprised by 'Zatoichi'!!

Swords, Kimonos And Fun! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Takeshi Kitano's latest film is a retelling of the classic story of Zatoichi, a wandering masseur and, unbeknown to others, a master swordsman.
Zatoichi happens to stumble across a village controlled by three gangs, who are basically making life hell for the inhabitants. One of the gangs (the Ginzo i believe) wipe out the other two in their vie for dominance, using their newly recruited ronin who takes work as a "bodyguard" to look after his sick wife.
Zatoichi's friendship with local woman Ioume (apologies for any spelling mistakes) exposes him to the corruption the village is facing. As the situation worsens, he decides it's time to serve some raw justice and show the local gang he's more than a blind masseur.
I wouldn't want to ruin the interesting story, but i'll just say that what unfolds is a rollercoaster ride of action and plot progression that is so well mixed, it never breaks pace. Even comedy elements are thrown in with the serious nature of the film, and are done very well so as not to detract from the overall quality.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good, fun action romp. It's a good introduction to Kitano's work and shouldnt be missed by any fan of Japanese cinema.
I'm not great at film reviews, but if you want to be really entertained by a movie, give Zatoichi a watch. You wont regret it.

A cut above the rest Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
What can I say....The storyline is great with such a diverse line of charaters. Great sword fighting (even if the main character is BLIND!) There are so many scenes where they make you say DANG did you see that!?!Good humor thrown in that makes me laugh right now just thinking about it! The gore isnt over the top theres no heads flying off at every turn (ok theres a few arms) but thats about it. You have to watch this movie at least 2 times to really catch everything. Im a old school hard core kung-fu flick kinda person but this sword swinger has converted me over.

the sweetest movie ever Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
there should be a warning put on the cover of this movie, because it is so sweet it might be too much for some. it is basically 2 hours of the coolest things you could possibly dream of. i went in expecting big things, and it was better than anything i could have imagined.
