The 1992 swordplay film from Hong Kong was touted as the successor to the 1971 King Hu classic A Touch of Zen. Both films featured a heroine as the main protagonist, with Taiwan action actress Cynthia Khan stepping into Hsu Feng's swordswoman shoes. In Zen of Sword, Khan is among a great ensemble cast that includes Michelle Reis, Kara Hui, Canti Lau, Waise Lee, as well as Shaw Brothers legend Phillip Kwok, who also serves as the film's action director.

Directed by Yu Mang Sang and produced by Stephen Shin (Black Cat), Zen of Sword tells an epic wuxia story set in ancient China. The princess (Michelle Reis) of a fallen kingdom is on the run from the pursuing armies of a rival state. Though betrayed by her trusted general (Waise Lee), the princess still has a loyal bodyguard (Cynthia Khan) at her defense. They escape to a secluded valley where the princess meets and soon falls in love with the prince (Canti Lau) from the enemy state, whose aunt (Kara Hui) forces him to kill the princess in order to revive his kingdom....
