数年前、寝たきりの父親をひとりで看取った兄（坂東三津五郎）は、介護による虚脱状態で、社会復帰が出来ないでいた。砂利を敷き詰めた庭のある広い屋敷では、兄の面倒を見ている弟（近藤芳正）、兄の恋人で身重の有里（田中美里）、覗きが趣味の肺疾患の居候(山西惇)、箱を持った男（酒井敏也）が、まるで家族の様に奇妙な共同生活を送っていた。そんな折、ひとりの女（片桐はいり）が訪ねてきた。不思議なバランスを保っていた共同体は、少しずつ揺らぎ始め…。
