鼓，是中國悠久歷史和源遠流長的樂器，所以被稱為中國樂器之首。而鼓是唯一一種能激發集體潛伏情緒，使人亢奮激昂向上的樂器。透過「香港鼓樂節」，希望讓樂迷對鼓樂有更深入的認識，亦希望能適時地以壯志激昂的鼓聲，配合香港在國際上「聲迴萬里、響徹雲霄」的美譽。
Drums have been in existence in China since the earliest times, and enjoy premier status among all Chinese musical instruments. They are the only instruments to rouse, excite and incite people to action. Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra thus organized the Hong Kong Drum Festival which would bring the heartening. Exuberant sound of drums to tell the world: Hong Kong is a world-class city, a city with “a sound of roaring thunder that echoes in many lands and soars to the sky”.
