A masterpiece Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Some months ago, I read a comment about Eyes of Dawn - something about it being a classic or must-watch. So when I saw it advertised on Yesasia with English subs (!!), I knew I had to get it. I had no idea of the story but I've always been interested in historical dramas. The first episode surprised me because it dealt with something I had never seen in Korean dramas - comfort women. The scenes were very disturbing but gripping. This was not an easy drama to watch but it was worth every minute of my time. Starting with the Pacific war (1940s) and ending with the Korean War (1950s), the drama follows the lives of three Koreans: a comfort woman (Yeo Ok) and two Korean students (Dae Chi and Ha Rim) who are conscripted against their will into the Japanese Imperial Army. There are scenes of human experiments and tortures; the drama does not try to cloak the atrocities of the war. That's why I say it is not an easy drama to watch. You will witness scenes of great cruelty but also immense courage. The love 'triangle' in the drama is beautiful and so much more meaningful than what I've seen in most Korean dramas. There are many familiar faces in Eyes of Dawn. It is truly an amazing cast. The acting is superb. Although the drama is 'old' (1991), it is way better than recent dramas. I was also pleasantly surprised by the excellent English subtitles. After watching Eyes of Dawn, I have started to read more about Korea's history during World war 2 and the Korean War. The drama not only touched me but it taught me things I had never been aware of before. It is truly a fantastic drama and deserves to be called the best Korean drama of all time!

Amazing! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I've watched many Korean dramas but the Eye of Dawn is simply the best. I could not believe the scale of the drama. It is the most epic I have seen. The cast is huge! Fantastic acting from the leads and many familiar faces. It is not your usual light and happy drama so be warned. There are many disturbing scenes of World War 2, etc. But if you want to see top-notch storytelling and acting, watch it. It is UNFORGETTABLE.
