YesAsia Editorial Description

The life and times of the first female ruler in Korean history comes to screen in the 2009 historical drama Queen Seon Duk. MBC's latest grand period biopic after Jumong, Yi San, and The Legend, Queen Seon Duk has reached "national drama" status, attracting over 40% viewership rating with its fascinating historical melodrama, luscious production values, and captivating battle of wits between two strong female leads - Lee Yo Won (Surgeon Bong Dal Hee) as the eponymous heroine, and Ko Hyun Jung (Wha'ts Up, Fox?) playing brilliantly against type as the villain. Aiding Lee Yo Won's journey from exiled princess to the first Queen of Shilla is a star-studded cast that includes Uhm Tae Woong (Devil) as her general and true love, Park Ye Jin (Dae Jo Yeong) as her twin sister, and Kim Nam Gil (Portrait of a Beauty) as her enemy's son, plus Cho Min Ki (East of Eden) and Yoo Seung Ho (The Way Home).

After surviving an assassination attempt as an infant, Princess Duk Man (Lee Yo Won) was raised in secrecy outside the kingdom of Shilla, not to return to her rightful place at the palace until her teens. With the help of her twin sister Princess Chun Myung (Park Ye Jin) and loyal general Kim Yu Sin (Uhm Tae Woong), Duk Man rises to her destiny to fight her power-hungry enemy, Mi Shil (Ko Hyun Jung), who tried to kill her years ago and now wields great influence over the king and the army.

KIM NAM GIL aka Bidam Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is the best so far of all the Korean series I have watched here in the Philippines...Kim Nam Gil captured the hearts of Filipino viewers. The love of Bidam to Queen Seon Duk is very touchy...I can't forget the final episode because it made the viewers cry...Bidam being a great swordman and his good looks...oh my God, Bidam we love you so much...I mean Kim Nam Gil...

Awesome Epic!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I must say that I'm certainly envious of the Koreans because they could produce an epic TV show such as this. I should first mention the score because I think one of the most crucial elements in movie making is the music's ability to effectively render the film's atmosphere and the character's emotions in the absence of dialogue and Queen Seon Deok (QSD) does not fail on this. The score is indeed haunting and beautiful.

Like an epic movie, QSD's sets are extravagant and grandiose, the sceneries are breath-taking, the Asian-style sword fights are fast-paced, and the colorful period costumes are a visual feast in the eyes. The first couple of episodes depict QSD's childhood and how Deokman (that's QSD's childhood name) grew up to be intelligent, brave, and street-smart.

I must mention that I really love the chemistry between Lee Yo-Won (Deokman) and Uhm Tae Woong (Yushin). Every time they banter, my television screen lightens up. :)

All in all, an awesome epic drama everyone should watch!
