■ SYNOPSIS
고등학교 때 같은 반 소민(정소민)을 종아 하는 걸 계기로 친하게 되어 항상 붙어 다니게 된 세 친구 경재(강하늘), 치우(김우빈), 동우(준호).
치호는 이십대가 된 이후로도 여자를 어떻게 해야 된다는 생각만 하는 철부지. 대학교 신입생이 된 경재는 꿈으로만 생각하던 로맨틱한 캠퍼스 커플을 꿈꾸고, 가정 형편상 학교를 휴학하고 알바를 하며 만화가의 꿈을 키우는 동우에게 스무살 현실은 녹녹하지 않다.

누구나 공감하는 스무살, 그 시절 몰두했던 것들에 대한 추억!
스무살은 참 재미있는 나이다. 술은 먹어도 되는데 술값은 없는 나이, 성인이 되기 전에 1년 간 머무는 곳, 어른이 되기 위한 예행연습 기간이라고나 할까. 서른이나 마흔이나 끊임 없이 고민하고 선택하고 책임져야 되는 것은 마찬가지지만 스무살은 출발점이기 때문에 ‘스물’을 영화의 제목이자 소재로 결정하게 되었다.
10년 전 내가 김우빈, 이준호, 강하늘 나이일 때 쓴 초고를 바탕으로 각색한 시나리오의 시작은 내 주위의 병맛 넘치는 친구들이다. 다루기 부담스러운 모습들이 많아 어느 정도 미화하고 귀엽게 표현한 부분들도 많지만 대부분 나와 친구들의 실제 모습과 가깝다.

김우빈, 웃다가 NG! “이런 현장 처음이야”
“영화 <스물>의 3개월 촬영 기간을 24시간으로 환산한다면 그 중 22시간을 웃느라 보냈다”고 밝힌 ‘치호’ 역의 김우빈은 “매일매일이 에피소드의 연속이었다. 셋이 합을 맞추는 장면이 유독 많았고, 세 사람이 함께 있을 때 정말 행복하고 재미있었다. 혼자 촬영하는 장면이 수월할 수도 있지만 오히려 힘이 안 나고 즐거움이 덜 했다”고 웃음이 끊이지 않았던 현장 분위기를 전했다. 그는 “<스물> 현장은 웃느라 NG가 많이 났다! 사실 시나리오가 재미있어서 연기하면서 웃음을 참는 게 가장 힘들었다”며 <스물> 촬영을 ‘행복하고 즐거운 여행’에 빗대기도 했다.
이준호의 육탄전, “또래 배우들의 ‘케미스트리’ 폭발”
동갑내기 세 배우 김우빈, 이준호, 강하늘의 남-남-남 케미가 돋보인 <스물>에서 ‘동우’ 역을 맡은 이준호는 “말도 안 되는 시시콜콜한 농담에도 서로 웃음이 터졌다. 또래 배우들이 함께 연기할 수 있었던 건 행운이었고 그래서 스스럼없이 본연의 모습을 다 보여줄 수 있었던 것 같다”며 화기애애했던 촬영장을 떠올렸다. “특히 마지막 중국집 장면에서는 흔히 말하는 ‘케미스트리’가 폭발했다. 본의 아니게 육탄전을 벌이며 코믹이 절정에 달하는 그 장면을 주목해 달라”며 <스물>의 명장면에 대해 언급하기도 했다.
강하늘의 취중진담, “<스물> 팀 사랑한다!”
<스물>에서 ‘경재’ 역을 연기한 강하늘은 “무엇 하나 빠뜨릴 수 없을 정도로 언제나 재미있었던 촬영장이었다. 지방 촬영 중 뒤풀이 후 모두가 잠든 시간, 술기운에 진심에서 우러나와 <스물> 팀 사랑한다고 고래고래 소리를 질렀다. 그 다음 날 그 장면이 동영상으로 고스란히 남아 있었고, 나는 ‘공공의 적’이 되어 석고대죄를 올렸다. 영화 속 ‘경재’의 굴욕 에피소드와 비슷한 경험이었다”며 웃픈 비화를 털어 놓았다. 그는 배우들이 느꼈던 행복한 촬영장 분위기를 관객들도 영화를 통해 공감할 수 있을 것이라고 자신감을 내비치기도 했다.

With a leading cast of Kim Woo Bin, Kang Ha Neul and Lee Jun Ho, it's clear that youth comedy Twenty will have no problem attracting a young female audience. However, the film's appeal easily extends beyond fans of the actors, because Twenty is simply one of the funniest movies I've watched this year.
The three popular stars play typical young and immature guys who forged their friendship after fighting over the same girl in high school. After graduation, aimless player Chi Cho (Kim Woo Bin), the de factor leader of the crew, continues to live off his parents and does nothing besides clubbing and sitting around at home. Kyung Jae (Kang Ha Neul), the smart and studious one, goes off to college but gets distracted by a pretty upperclassman. All-around nice guy Dong Woo (Lee Jun Ho) tiredly tries to juggle cram school and part-time jobs but can barely make ends meet. Twenty does touch on realistic post-high school dilemmas about changing relationships and career anxieties, but it mostly doesn't take itself too seriously. Writer-director Lee Byeong Hun previously helped adapt the screenplays of Scandal Makers and Sunny, and the scripts of those two films are good indicators of what Lee brings to his own directorial effort: warmth, youth, energy and mischief. Buoyant and unpretentious, the zippy film aims to entertain with girl chasing, guy problems and coming-of-age conflicts and misadventures that carry some meaning – but not too much. The biggest star of the film, Kim Woo Bin, actually gets the most artificial character arc and storyline as the suave, unrepentant slacker who maybe grows some conscience and goals after following a C-list actress around. What his character lacks in development, though, Kim Woo Bin makes up for with brazen charisma and comedic timing, as Chi Cho's bald-faced carousing, shameless tantrums and glib lines provide many of the film's laugh-out-loud moments. Kang Ha Neul, who often plays the stiff and serious representative in a young ragtag group (see: Misaeng, The Heirs, Monstar, C'est Si Bon), seems to occupy that same archetype again, but then swiftly undercuts it with romantic bumbling. Idol Lee Jun Ho also proves that his solid acting debut in Cold Eyes was no accident as he channels an affable everyman sensibility as the most relatable and reasonable character of the bunch. Twenty is one of those movies where you can tell the cast got along great on set and the bro humor and camaraderie translate onscreen. Whenever all three main actors are together, hilarity is sure to follow. I laughed more during the ridiculous slow-motion brawl scene near the end of Twenty than probably all other Korean films I've seen this year combined. |
