Last year was a standout year for Snow Man. Snow Mania S1 was the second highest-selling album of 2021 on Oricon's year-end chart, and all three of their singles ranked in the year-end top five, with million-seller Grandeur coming in first. The three singles, ranging from powerful (Grandeur) to refreshing (Hello Hello) to emotional (Secret Touch), also showed the Johnny's group's ability to comfortably take on different styles. Snow Man continues strong this year with Brother Beat, which is delightfully different than their previous singles.
Snow Man's sixth single Brother Beat is a bright, mischievous and upbeat jam that looks and sounds more like something out of the Johnny's WEST canon. Written and co-composed by Kubota Kai, the wonderfully arranged song zips along with grumbly, conversational rap verses and a bubblegum chorus over a catchy pop rock melody. The playful party tune sends positive vibes all around while keeping it real with lyrics that both gripe and cheer, delivered with just the right blend of hyperactive flow and lively spirit. Brother Beat is actually the theme song for the live-action film adaptation of Osomatsu-san starring the Snow Man members. While I haven't seen the movie yet, this song definitely matches the cheeky tone of Osomatsu-san. Just the opening lines say it all: "I'm sleepy, I can't move / I honestly don't want to do anything / Can't be bothered... I love the futon." Brother Beat shows yet another side of Snow Man as they effectively unleash their comedic energy in fun, funny and funky musical form. This song goes into the mood-booster playlist! |
