Directors Mabel Cheung and Alex Law (Echoes of a Rainbow, An Autumn's Tale) collaborate once more for A Tale of Three Cities, a sweeping wartime romance depicting the true story of Jackie Chan's parents. The title of the film refers to the cities of Wuhu, Shanghai and Hong Kong, which Nationalist Army spy Fang Daolong (Sean Lau, The Bullet Vanishes) and widow Chen Yuefong (Tang Wei, Lust, Caution) travel between during the throes of the Chinese Civil War. The two first meet when Yuefong attempts to smuggle opium to earn money for her two daughters, and an act of kindness from Daolong prevents her imprisonment. Their romance progresses steadily but the two are unfortunately separated when Daolong's former Nationalist army comrades attempt to take his life. Wounded, Daolong goes on the run while hoping that he'll be reunited with his beloved Yuefong one day.

Based on a true story, The Tale of Three Cities is a period drama war film co-directed by award-winning co-directors Mabel 金Cheung and Alex Law who together have the reputation on romances – with previous works of “An Autumn’s Tale” and “Echoes of the Rainbow”.
