In a career spanning over half a century, legendary Korean director Shin Sang Ok directed over 70 films and produced over 100 more. A driving force of Korean cinema during the 1950s and 1960s, his production company Shin Films put out hundreds of films during this period, helping to forge the industry's Golden Age. Shin Sang Ok, who passed away in 2006, was posthumously awarded the Gold Crown Cultural Medal, South Korea's highest honor for an artist. Shin Sang Ok's final posthumous film A Winter Story depicts the experiences of an elderly man suffering from dementia and the daughter-in-law who cares for him.

Based on a best-selling novel, A Winter Story stars beloved veteran Shin Goo as the picky elderly man who doesn't get really get along with his daughter-in-law, played by theater actress Kim Ji Sook. However, after the sudden passing of the man's wife, the responsibility of taking care of the father-in-law falls onto the shoulders of the daughter-in-law. Capturing the pains, conflicts and emotions experienced by the entire family, the moving film shows the pressure and hardships faced by the daughter-in-law as well as the fears and helplessness of aging.
