cd of the year? no, but still Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
all the positive reviews for this cd were lost on me at first. now, although it isn't as good (in my opinion) as everyone says, it isn't bad. song 1: except for some good guitar work, this is a generic sounding song with a jazz style. nothing to remember it by. Grade: C. song 2: same as previous song. some peppy music, but with corny lyrics. should have been sung in japanese, the english lyrics looses a lot in translation (maybe it is just as corn in japanese). Grade: D. song 3: thought i was listening to an old sergio mendes album. starts off nice (relaxing vibe), and is good until the end is overdone. should have kept the ending music in line with the rest of the song. Grade:B-. song 4: lovely singing, great music. reminds me of ringo-sans earlier cd's. great fuzz guitar. Grade:A. song 5: nice guitar and vocals, nice jazzy feel that actually works. electric piano in background is nicely restrained. Grade B+. song 6: first one and a half minutes or so is a nice vocal/piano combo that turn into a generic style that ringo-san seems to hide behind at times. the more she does, the less effective it is. Grade C-. song 7: this english sung song is much better than the 2nd song. snappy song with good vocals, ringo-sans discontent comes across much better. grade:A. song 8: a good song to have in the background or when driving. not great, but good tempo and some good interplay between instruments and vocals. Grade:B-. song 9: this is one of those songs where the gal gets on top of the piano and sings. doesn't matter, because it is a boring jazz/night club type type song. Grade: C-. song 10: this a good j-pop/rock song. nothing overdone. music (some good chicken-picking guitar) complements the vocals, without overtaking the vocals, as often is the case with this band. Grade: A. song 11: a fine song. especially to end the album. nice music build up in the background. ringo-sans voice is very nice here. a nice sounding guitar piece leading to a good (if not overdone) ending. Grade: A. although there are some outstanding songs here, a few songs hide behind ringo-sans tendency to over do the music. also, at least for me, this jazz style she is using now, gets old for me. but even with a few minor criticism's, this cd, although not the masterpiece other people seem to think it is, is still enjoyable.

A Must Have For 2006!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
There are very few albums that become a "must have" for a JPop/JRock/JWhatever fan - this album is one of them. Starting off, this version includes a CD and, of course, the exclusive HOMME scent, which is a fragrance that defines the very essence of this music. Now, you might be asking yourself - why is there a perfume/cologne with the album? Well, upon listening to each track you will truly understand TOKYO JIHEN's idea of creating an ''ADULT'' theme. With each track that caresses your ears, you will be intoxicated by the rich scent of the cologne; truly this album is a spiritual experience. For those who have bought nothing by Shiina Ringo, or Tokyo Jihen, and for those who love JPop/JRock, and yes, JWhatever, or even those who just want an album that they can truly feel mature about, and indulge into each note, this is for you. Buy this album and from the first chord of the first track, to the last guitar riff of the last track, you won’t regret it. If you were just going to buy one album this year - Tokyo Jihen's Otona is the one!!
