明高中狀元返家，光夫婦百般奉承。恰遇鵬前來為母討回公道。明得悉一切，將兄嫂治罪。
After Ma Chau-wan and Wong Suk-ming have married and given birth to a son, Pang-yee, Ming's brother Pak-kwong and his wife covet the family fortune and press Ming to seek fortune away from home. Wan is harshly treated by the family. Soon after that Pak-kwong chases Wan and Pang away, who fortunately receive help from Fourth Granny. Meanwhile, Ming is stranded in a foreign town and becomes the adopted son of a kind man. He sends back money and letters, but these are all kept by Kwong and his wife. When Pang falls critically ill, Wan is forced to work in a brothel.
Sau-him, a good friend of Ming, comes to look for Wan. Wan subject to the accusation of the couple. Years later, after he has been teased by school-mates, Pang questions his mother why she has become a prostitute. Wan is distressed. Fourth Granny explains everything to Pang, who in return regrets his insolence.
Ming returns as the Number One Scholar. While Kwong and his wife are enthusiastically entertaining Ming, Ming chances to meet Pang who comes lodging an appeal for his mother. The ill-disposed couple is duly punished for their crime.
