In 2011, surreal fantasy comedy Arakawa Under the Bridge was approved to be turned into both a live-action late-night drama series and a live-action film. Instead of continuing the story of the drama, writer-director Iizuka Ken (who was also in charge of the series) has produced a condensed and more polished version of the same story with a small twist. In fact, Iizuka retains everything that made the drama popular with fans in the film version, including a hilarious cast that includes Oguri Shun (Crows Zero) as the turtle village chief, Yamada Takayuki (Densha Otoko) as a star-faced villager, Shirota Yu as a cross-dressing nun, and Hayashi Kento as the man who enters the strange isolated world next to the Arakawa river.

Kou (Hayash Kento) is a talented young businessman who lives strictly by one simple rule: To not be indebted by anyone. One day, Kou's father sends him to a place near the Arakawa River to buy up the land. In the process, he falls off a bridge and into the Arakawa River and is rescued by homeless girl Nino (Kiritani Mirei). To repay his debt, Nino asks Kou to fall in love with her. To do that, Kou decides to move into the village under the bridge, occupied by an assortment of strange characters like the turtle village chief (Oguri Shun) and a cross-dressing nun (Shirota Yu).
