Following the success of The Thieves, director Choi Dong Hun returns with the just-as-big and star-studded period espionage thriller Assassination. Garnering over 12 million admissions at the box office, the acclaimed blockbuster is the second biggest Korean film of 2015, and one of the top ten grossing Korean films of all time. Set in the 1930s during the Japanese occupation period, the action-packed thriller brings together the all-star cast of Jeon Ji Hyun, Lee Jung Jae, Ha Jung Woo, Jo Jin Woong, Oh Dal Soo, Kim Hae Suk and Lee Kyung Young to play various figures embroiled in an assassination plot.
Double-dealing agent Yeom Seo Jin (Lee Jung Jae), who works for Korea's interim government, is tasked to assemble a group to assassinate a Japanese commander and a Korean collaborator. He extricates three prisoners from Shanghai, including sniper An Ok Yoon (Jeon Ji Hyun), for the mission. However, the Japanese are tipped off about the plans, and notorious hired gun Hawaii Pistol (Ha Jung Woo) is sent to Korea to take out the assassins first.
