With his 2009 film Beautiful Crazy, acclaimed Taiwan writer and director Lee Chi Yuan (Chocolate Rap) draws a poetic picture of the beauty, intimacy, and cruelty of teen romances in a dreamy style critics described as "post-Iwai Shunji". The film introduces a trio of promising young actresses to the cinema world: Golden Harvest Awards winner Liao Chien Hui, Amiya Lee, and Angel Yao all give daring and emotional performances in their big-screen debut. A hit at the Tokyo, Mannheim, and Rotterdam international film festivals, the film gathered behind the scenes such talents as Dutch cinematographer Leonard Retel Helmrich - who is famous for his "singleshot cinema" - and Hou Hsiao Hsien and Jia Zhangke's favorite score composer Hanno Yoshihiro.

Beautiful Crazy is about time, memory, and love. The lives of high school girls Xiao Bu (Amiya Lee), Angel (Angel Yao) and A-mi (Liao Chien Hui) are intertwined, as the girls explore and consume the friendship, romance, and desires that blossom between them. Enter a boy named Cake, and nothing will ever be the same again...
