Yoshizawa Ryo (Gintama) and Sugisaki Hana (Bleach) star in the youth drama Blue, Painful and Brittle based on a novel by Sumino Yoru, the best-selling writer of Let Me Eat Your Pancreas. Television veteran Kariyama Shunsuke (Humanoid Monster, Bem) directs the moving film.

University student Tabata Kaede (Yoshizawa Ryo) is not good at socializing and tends to maintain distance from other people. Akiyoshi Hisano (Sugisaki Hana) seems to always have her head up in the clouds with her idealistic and hard-to-understand comments. These two outsiders meet and form a secret club called Moai with the big goal of changing the world. Though they are mocked by others for their lofty ideals, Moai becomes an important place for Kaede and Akiyoshi. However, Akiyoshi disappears from the world. After Akiyoshi's departure, Moai evolves into a social circle for job hunters, and Kaede is left with just anger at the club. In order to recover Akiyoshi's dream, he hatches a plan to take back Moai.
