Based on the same-titled novel by Naoki Prize-winning Taiwanese-Japanese writer Chin Shun Shin, the four-episode PTS mini-series Bodhisattva in Storm is set in Taiwan's early postwar period during the transition from Japanese to Chinese rule. Directed by Hsu Chao Jen (Together), the series draws on the national, cultural and linguistic differences and volatile complexities of its time and place to build a riveting mystery. Golden Bell-winning actor Chris Wu (A Touch of Green) stars as an eccentric detective, a character from other Chin Shun Shin works that has been specially transplanted to the series, alongside Wu Chien Ho (The Best of Youth).

In 1946, one year after the end of WWII, Taiwan has returned to Chinese rule, the Japanese colonial government has withdrawn, and tensions run high throughout the island. Yang Hui Ming (Wu Chien Ho, The Best of Youth) and his friend Tao Zhang Wen (Chris Wu), both of whom studied in Japan, arrive in Taiwan. During this sensitive time when those who aided Japan are seen as traitors, Japanese military officer Kawasaki is murdered. Meanwhile, Lin Jing Wei (Liu Kuan Ting), the older brother of Yang Hui Ming's girlfriend (Cosmos Lin, Between), suddenly appears out of the blue. Lin Jing Wei and his friend Lu Zhou had been presumed dead after they went to mainland China to fight in the war against Japan. Tao Zhang Wen begins to investigate Kawasaki's death and unexpectedly uncovers a bigger secret.

改編自日籍臺裔小說家陳舜臣同名小說《憤怒的菩薩》，以戰後初期台灣社會為場景，將錯綜複雜的國族議題轉為精彩的推理小說。1946，終戰後的第一年，台灣歸還給中國、日本殖民政府撤退、中日文在台灣交錯發聲。

楊輝銘與好友中國留學生陶展文自日返臺；1946年的敏感時期，曾經協助日本的有力人士皆被視為「漢奸」，仍留在台灣的日本軍官川崎少佐此時卻被殺害。楊輝銘女友林彩琴的哥哥林景維與其世交陸宙之前赴大陸投身抗日組織，傳言兩人已死。在川崎少佐被殺害後，林景維竟然現身，死而復生。推理能力過人的陶展文開始調查，未料掀開背後更大的秘密……。

1946年三月，經過漫長的海上顛簸，陶展文與楊輝銘乘著貨船『朝風丸』，從日本回到了基隆港。這次回來，是要陪楊輝銘向林彩琴提親的。林家是菩薩庄的大地主，林彩琴的哥哥林景維和同鄉好友陸宙原本在東京留學，之後齊赴上海投身抗日組織，然而日軍佔領南京後景維卻傳來客死異鄉的消息，直到有一天，景維再次出現在菩薩庄，林家上上下下喜出望外，可景維卻帶來陸宙的壞消息… 國民政府軍官崔上校，本想與輝銘上山了解菩薩庄地形，探查期間山間突然響起了槍聲，遠方一個穿白衣的人影應聲倒地，兩人上前一看中槍的竟是…

林家辦喪期間，陶展文與楊輝銘改住鄉長陸樞堂家中，崔上校為了自保，表面上邀請兩人加入林景雄命案調查行列，暗地裡，在葉中校調查出林景維傷口是日本槍造成後，即前一同往日本軍營找緒方理論。展文與輝銘積極地尋找線索，對案件相關嫌疑人一一詢問，並沙盤推演案發過程，就在兩人試圖拼起案件全貌時，村里又出現了一具燒得焦黑塞在油桶的屍體。展文與輝銘想起了山頂焦黑一片的廢棄油庫，前往搜查時發現了一個鈕扣。此時，一直找不到的關鍵證據『射殺景維的子彈』就這麼突然出現了…而行為詭異的林家大小姐珠茵，究竟想掩蓋什麼？
