Directed by Lee Hwan Kyung, the heartwarming underdog drama Champ stars Cha Tae Hyun (Hello Ghost, My Sassy Girl) as a down-and-out jockey who finds the strength to return to racing after encountering a very special horse. Inspired by the true story of a limping racehorse, Champ elicits both tears and laughs following two damaged souls as they embark on the race of their lives. Yoo Oh Sung, who also participated in director Lee's previous horse racing film Lump of Sugar, plays a horse trainer who helps them find their way. Champ also co-stars Park Ha Sun (The Last Blossom), Kim Sang Ho, Kim Kwang Kyu, Yoon Hee Suk, and adorable child actress Kim Soo Jung, and Baek Yoon Shik makes a cameo appearance.
Star jockey Seung Ho (Cha Tae Hyun) lost both his wife and his career after a terrible car accident. A few years later, he's barely getting by working at the racetrack, and trying to hide his deteriorating eyesight from everyone. After crossing the local bookie, Seung Ho flees to Jeju with his daughter (Kim Soo Jung), and ends up at Yoon's (Yoo Oh Sung) ranch. There, he comes across a stubborn limping horse, Woo Bak, whose life is on the block because it refuses to be ridden. Can a jockey going blind and a racehorse with a limp make it back to the track?

Horse jockey Seung-ho loses his wife in a fatal car accident. The accident also leaves him practically blind. No longer able to work, he leads an aimless life with his little daughter. Things take turn for the worse when he loses all his savings after trying to cheat at the horse track and flees to a remote ranch in Jeju Island. There he meets a violent and limping horse Woo-bak and he trains the horse ready for race. Against all odds, Seung-ho and Woo-bak finishes first in the preliminaries but when Seung-ho’s blindness is discovered by the officials, they’re disqualified from the finals. Woo-bak rejects all other jockeys and direly awaits Seung-ho to come back. The limping horse and his blind jockey bet everything to race one last time.
