Screened in competition at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, Sabu's Chasuke's Journey unfurls a wild film reference-laden fantasy romance that spans the mortal and celestial realms. Matsuyama Kenichi, who starred in the maverick director's 2011 film Bunny Drop, plays the eponymous hero, a heavenly tea servant who provides tea for the scribes in charge of scripting the lives of those on earth. Chasuke is particularly fond of a woman named Yuri (Ono Ito, For Love's Sake), but she gets accidentally written off to a premature death. To prevent the tragedy from happening, Chasuke heads down to earth to save Yuri, encountering many side adventures and eccentric people with badly scripted lives along the way.

[ストーリー]
その男は天から降りてきた。たったひとりの女性を守るために。／天界—。白い霧が漂い、どこまでも続くような広間。そこでは数えきれぬほど多くの脚本家が白装束で巻紙に向かい、下界の人間たちの「シナリオ」を書いていた。人間たちは彼らが書くシナリオどおりに人生を生き、それぞれの運命を全うしているのである。茶番頭の茶助は脚本家たちに茶を配りながら、そんなシナリオの中で生きている人間たちの姿を興味深く眺めていた。中でも、口のきけない可憐で清純な女性・新城ユリへの関心には恋心にも似た感情があった。　そのユリが車に跳ねられて、死ぬ運命に陥ってしまったことを知る茶助。ユリを救う道はただひとつ、シナリオに影響のない天界の住人・茶助が自ら下界に降り、彼女を事故から回避させるしかなかった・・・・。
